Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
The subject says it all. It will be my first year attending since getting my CHL, and I can't remember seeing any signs before, but that walk back to the car is a long one. Their site lists concealed weapons as banned, but no proper wording there.

I believe the one in Waxahachie is validly posted 30.06. Not sure where the one you are talking about is, but if it is the same 'Scarborough Renfest' then I can bet they will have it posted.

Went and looked at the site. Looks like the same company and the same company. Maybe someone who has been to that one will be along soon to answer for sure.

Re: Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
I would like to know as well, as I am thinking about taking the family down there
Re: Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
Last year when I went, there were signs between each of the entrances that said something to the effect of "The King and Queen decree that no weapons of any sort are allowed beyond this point." Perfectly ignorable by someone with a CHL. And obviously ignored by every sword- and knife- wielding walking anachronism there. Have a good time and conceal your handgun. You might need it on your way back to your car. There have been a few incidents in the parking lot over the years as drunken guests (some of them wielding swords and/or knives!) let their alcohol do their thinking for them.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I went this past weekend. The sign is actually a bit more specific: "His Majesty has proclaimed that firearms are not permitted inside the merchant village" (or something very close to that).barres wrote:Last year when I went, there were signs between each of the entrances that said something to the effect of "The King and Queen decree that no weapons of any sort are allowed beyond this point."
While the letters are >1" and are contrasting colors, it ain't no 30.06.

Re: Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
I can confirm the above. No valid 30.06 sign at the Plantersville festival.

Re: Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
Yeah, their FAQ also says "no concealed weapons" but as we know... not legally posted... of course they can tell you to leave and you're out your admission $$$ if they see it. Ergo...concealed, I know, I know. LOL

Would the notification on the website constitute 'being notified'?Morgan wrote:Yeah, their FAQ also says "no concealed weapons" but as we know... not legally posted... of course they can tell you to leave and you're out your admission $$$ if they see it. Ergo...concealed, I know, I know. LOL

No; It has to be verbal notification or posted per the 30.06 requirements.pbwalker wrote:Would the notification on the website constitute 'being notified'?Morgan wrote:Yeah, their FAQ also says "no concealed weapons" but as we know... not legally posted... of course they can tell you to leave and you're out your admission $$$ if they see it. The Texas Legislature has preemption even over His Majesty at the Renn Fair.

Re: Is Texas Renaissance Festival posted?
Texas' two largest ren fests are this one and Scarborough Fair in the spring up in Waxahatchie (or however you spell that) just south of Dallas. I'd guess Texas Ren would be closer to you. But with 1 in the spring and 1 in the fall, you can choose. I would GUESS that there's likely a smaller fair closer to San Antonio.
There are a host of other medieval activities, including the world's largest medieval recreation club, the Society for Creative Anachronism. However, that club is more interactive and hobby oriented than just going to a ren fest and watching.
