Well, it finally happened...(updated w/ pics)

Post by agbullet2k1 »

For those of you who have followed me on this forum, first of all, that's creepy...stop it....and second of all, you know that I've been very proactively trying to find one of those elusive PX4 subcompacts. Well, after going to every show at doors-open that I could without success, and after calling my local gun stores for months without luck and putting my name on every waiting list, I finally decide to bid on one I found on gunbroker. After bidding more than I was willing (hey, I'm still on a budget here) without meeting the reserve, I look up the seller's past auctions and find another sub that tripped the reserve at $600. Well, that was the end of that. I wasn't about to spend a couple tanks of gas more just to save time.

It suddenly crossed my mind that I hadn't tried Carter's Country in a while, mainly because I figured that they would be expensive, and they get a lot of business, meaning that they probably had a high turnover on hard to find items (a la LCP). Well I call, seeing as how I had nothing better to do. The voice on the other end greets me, I ask my question, already knowing the answer is "no, try again later."

To my surprise, the answer was "Sure, we got 2!! Want one?" My shocked reply was, "Well I go to work in an hour, so there's no way I can make it there and back in time." Well, I found out they could take a credit card deposit over the phone, so I snatched it up. Also turns out that I got the last one. Apparently, the other one sold earlier today.

The search is over!!!! :thewave :fire :woohoo I'll have it by the end of next week, once all the storm stuff here dies down, and hopefully I'll have a range report in short time.

First off, Congratulations!

Secondly, Have you ever heard of PX4 sub fever? It sounds like you have it - really bad! Why didn't you call in sick and take care of it? I am just looking out for the best interest of you!

Let me guess, with today's newspaper, right? Well looks like normal business will drag me close by the store next Thursday, so I'll pick it up then. Still have some drywall and cabinets to destroy at a friend's house this weekend, so a range trip was unlikely anyway.

Well, my wife took the camera to class with her, but I'll get right on that when she gets back tonight.

Congrats...I've got a full size PX4 and am interested in seeing what you think of it when you get a chance to shoot it.

I know I said I was going to wait until next week, but I just couldn't help myself....

I'll take this time to give applause to the Carter's Country folks for making this probably the easiest gun purchase I've ever made. Everything, from taking a retainer deposit over the phone, to the friendly conversation, was pretty good customer service IMHO. But enough of that, I'm sure this is why you're really here....

Image
Standard contents: 1 pistol, 2 13rd 9mm mags, one mysterious blue plastic disc thingee, "speedloader," 2 extra grip inserts, and a lock that I find more useful for securing things to my car seat.

Image
Comparison of full size vs. sub-compact. I lined up the back and bottom as close as possible.

Image
With a full size 17rd 9mm magazine, and yes, it feeds just fine.

The picture makes me say Ewwwwwwwww... there is a half consumed bottle of Jarritos on the desk. Don't tell me you drank some of that. ;-)

Very nice PX4 though, keep it away from the Jarritos or your SS barrel will rust.

MMMmmmm, Jarritos. I'll take cane sugar over any drink with HFCS any day.
