I am growing as a responsible poster. I didn't hijack a thread.
I have a few questions for all of the letter writers on this forum.
Some here like to write business owners in an attempt to convince them that they should remove unenforceable signs. The risk is that they will post the correct signs. This has happened.
I understand the goal, but how many times have the signs actually come down? I recall one here recently that was successful compared to all of the Taco Cabana signs that still remain.
If you want to make a difference, why not start a campaign against all of the governments that post where they legally can not ban concealed carry?
This would make more sense to me. I will join in the effort. Galveston County has their share.
This is just my opinion.

Re: For All Of You Letter Writers.....
Copied from my reply on the "other" thread...
"I would rather deal with someone that accepts CHL holders based on being well informend, and out of choice, rather than out of blind ignorance.
....just my opinion"
I do, and will continue to educate every person that I can regarding the uselessness of these signs (even the legal ones) as a tool in detering crime. Politely educating them goes FAR FURTHER in my opinion to justify our "cause" than ignoring them constantly. If one chooses to ignore them, and for some unforseen reason you expose the presence of a firearm to the wrong person while on the property.....you will probaly get the oppertunity to explain the statutes, and illegality of the sign to the LEO's when they arrive. You may make some headway......but I'd place my money on a criminal tresspass warning.
I choose to try and make a difference...if they remove them we win. If they update them....we win.....WHY....because we can make an EDUCATED decision to spend our money with someone that values our rights.

I seriously doubt it. This is one of those "the sky is falling" statements people use to not carry where non-compliant signs are posted. I don't consider writing such letters as educationg the recipients.Humanphibian wrote:

You did not addrerss one of my questions regarding improperly posted places wheree we are legally allowed to carry. Lets see. That would be lots of police stations and other LEO offices, inhabited by those LEOs who supposedly would arrest me inyour scenario you use to justify your letter writing. Seems to me they need to be educated above all else If they are going to arrest me for criminal tresspass, which would be an illegal arrest.

This is the part of your statement I was commenting on, as it seems by content and timing to refer to my reply about the dealership in your neck of the woods.anygunanywhere wrote:I am growing as a responsible poster. I didn't hijack a thread.

I FULLY agree that government entities, state, county and local are among the worst of the worst in attempting to impose and enforce rules that they have no right whatsoever to do. And lobbying for change in that arena is a a great thing!!
And yoe the criminal tresspass comment is a "Sky is Falling!" scenario, and was used simply as a worst case example. I also believe that speaking intelligently to a business owner about an issue will not result in a "Sky is Falling" situation with all, most, or many of them updating to legal 30.06 signage.
I a perfect world the 2nd would be universally recognized for what it is, and we would all be able to carry in whatever manner, wherever we see fit.

not trying to step on toes....just putting my $.02 out there....as right, or wrong as it may be. Thanks for the retort.

Re: For All Of You Letter Writers.....
I remain unconvinced.
I still card and letter places that improperly post. Maybe I overexplain my case, but I point out that the law establishes a standard for posting and that they do not meet the standard, and that opens them to people carrying on their premises despite their posting. I explain that, with their improper posting, they are opening themselves to a possible suit by someone wrongfully arrested due to their improper posting.
I also explain the mechanics of the CHL applications process and the vetting of the applicants.
I also explain the simple fact that they are not creating a safe zone, just a potential massacre site, criminals will not obey the sign (without mentioning that it doesn't apply to them anyway) and that CHL holders have a much better record than the general population.
I even go so far as to point out that they could spare themselves the unnecessary expense of replacing the sign with a compliant one by just removing it.
So far I have gotten mostly negative replies, form or corporate flack, but I did get one positive one a while back, from Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine, after which they took down their non-compliant signs.
I use much the same letter for compliant signs.
