Utah CHP Time Frame
I took that class Charles offered on Oct 3rd and sent my packet in that Monday they got it on the 7th... I emailed them today to see if they got it because the check had not cleared. This is the email I got.
David,We received it on 10/17. We should issue it by 12/17. BCI Firearms Division3888 West 5400 SouthSalt Lake City, Utah 84118801-965-4445dpsfirearms@utah.gov
That is 10 days later then the day they signed for it but lets face it... I will have it a lot faster then the CHL for Texas. I am still getting it but I wanted to carry legal faster... But man you would think if Utah can turn around in 60 days... and they are getting a ton of out of state apps then our DPS which from what I have been told has more people and more resources they could turn around faster... 6 months to wait is crazy...

Re: Utah CHP Time Frame
I haven't looked into what others have experienced, but form me:
Took the class on 10/4
Mailed on 10/7
Received in Utah 10/14 (first delivery attempt was a Friday, BCI works Mon-Thur, then the next Mon was a Fed holiday)
My credit card was charged on 10/21
Maybe it's slow times for them, who knows

Re: Utah CHP Time Frame
you WILL get your Utah license 60 days from when they cashed the check. Utah abide's by their laws, and they will issue your license by 60 days, even if they have not fully finished processing the application. What they will do is issue your license, and reserve the right to revoke it if further background checks fail. They do this because their law says they have to issue by 60 days, and they follow it. Texas chooses to ignore their own laws. I got my Utah license at I believe 62 days total from when I mailed the application off to when I received my plastic.
Re: Utah CHP Time Frame
Yea that is why I went with the Utah for now... I have read in here that if you have Texas CHL if you are pulled over the officer knows that you have it when he runs your plates... does the same apply for the Utah? I am still getting the Texas CHL, but wanted to be able to carry as soon as possible... D

Thanks David

In the UTAH class I believe we were told no, it wouldn't come up. It was strongly suggested though that we show the permit the same as we would the Texas CHL, since we are in Texas and still have to follow Texas CHL laws.dwhitley wrote:Yea that is why I went with the Utah for now... The same deal happened with my son only it was even longer than the ten days you report. They told him they received it August 16th and the check was cashed on July 15th or 16th. The Utah permit arrived almost exactly 60 days from August 16th which seemed like a miracle compared to what Texas is putting people through.dwhitley wrote:I took that class Charles offered on Oct 3rd and sent my packet in that Monday they got it on the 7th... Re: Utah CHP Time Frame
If all you have is a Utah CFP, then DPS has no knowledge what so ever that you have it. DPS only knows about Texas CHL licenses. If you do get pulled over, you are still required to show your Utah CFP when the officer asks for identification. Regardless of what state CHL license you have, you MUST ALWAYS abide by the laws in the state in which you are visiting.03Lightningrocks wrote:In the UTAH class I believe we were told no, it wouldn't come up. I thought I remembered it that way. I think you were in the same class as my son and I. I don't know if you read my post above about the time frame, but I was curious about when you received your Utah CFP? He and I thought it was curious that they cashed the check on the 16th of July but recorded receiving it as August 16th.

Hmm, maybe I was in the same class as you. Did you take Linda's class up in Roanoke at the Rec Center? There was a guy and his son in the class (I believe his son was up temporarily from college). In the same class there was a police officer sitting with his wife who was doing the Texas renewal.
Oh, and I believe that Utah charged my card 5 calendar days after they received it. They received it on a Thursday and the following Tuesday they charged my account. I remember that the whole process from mailing (I did mail it 2-3 day USPS) to receiving my plastic was a smidge over 60 days (61-63....can't remember exactly)

Yep....you sat behind us....LOL. I believe you have a youngin or two you had some concerns about gaining access to firearms. There was also a fellow in the class with a collection of concealed carry permits from all over the country...BigBlueDodge wrote: Hmm, maybe I was in the same class as you. My son just received his Utah CFP a couple weeks ago. I guess it dropped through the cracks. Funny though, it still arrived before Texas. He received the infamous hurrican delay letter on Texas. Having his Utah, he really isn't too concerned with when Texas get's to him. I have not sent in my Utah stuff yet. I already have a Texas CHL and the urgency of getting Utah isn't an issue for me. We ran into Marty over at Cabbellas a few weeks back. i had no idea he worked there. I need to borrow his employee discount...LOL.
