Another option, but expensive is the FN 5.7. MUCH more power and very little recoil...

You might want to look at a .32 Magnum. A steel K frame .38 (S&W Model 10) would be a good choice - - - enough weight to absorb recoil but light enough not to overload your grandmother. If the gun is only to be a house gun then a 4" barrel is ideal.

I humbly disagree with this. I had the opportunity to shoot several hundred rounds through one and I find that the recoil feels just like my 9mm's.
