My son and I have been stocking up on Black Hills .223 and .308 match ammo for a few weeks now. He's going to buy an AR upper in a few days. Unfortunately, I can't afford one right now. We both have AR varmint rifles with long heavy barrels, but it would be handy to have an extra carbine sized upper w/ shorter, lighter barrel, and flat top w/ flip up sights that we could swap out for the long heavy scoped uppers if need be. We've also both got MagPul PRS adjustable stocks for ours. Other than that, we're pretty set. We've both got heavy barreled bolt rifles in .308 and one sporter in the same caliber, and several pistols.

I would like to have more ammo, but I don't want to file BK over ammunition purchases. My biggest worry is how long reloading gear and components will be available. I'm still trying to get myself set up in that regard, but don't have immediately available funds for it.

:iagree:

It sounds like you have some nice equipment there, an AR-15 will be my next purchase, it will be a while though haha.

I was at Champion Firearms today in College Station and the owner told me that last weekend they sold over 100 AR platform rifles. I didn't even know they carried that much inventory!

By the way while I was there I picked up a Vector AK-47 with 5 extra mags, two RRA lower recievers, and I they said they a Robinson XCR coming in so I put a deposit down on it. :txflag: :anamatedbanana

I went to Pruitts Today. As far as I could tell, he sold ALL new Assault Weapons before noon. If they were still on the shelf, they were tagged with names for pickup this afternoon. It was crazy, I think he had a supplier call, and he said "Give me as much as you have"

I hope AW do not get banned, as I have yet to buy one 'cause I can't afford one yet!

I'm not sure that I understand the rush prior to Jan '09, perhaps folks are afraid of supplies drying up or prices rising.

Since I didn't get vaccinated, I also caught the fever and picked up two lower receivers today, one complete and one stripped. You know that the fever is serious when you start wondering if you're getting low on ammo when your supply in any one caliber dips below 1k rds.
it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

"couple a cases" seems to be the comfort zone at our house. Of course "comfort zone" just means we aren't on
" a mission" to restock..
I know for a fact there are folks on this very board, that are in the 10k comfort zone.

I will share with you all my experiance from today. I returned from Iraq on monday, just finshed up my 444 day tour. Today I was busy, had to drop a spare tire off to be mounted and ballanced, get a new Drivers License, take care of one of my Soldiers. So enough on that, I had to go to Austin to pick up my XD that I ordered in September.

Now when I ordered it, the gun shop guy didnt ask for me to make a deposit or pass a background check or anything. He just e-mailed me and said he would order it. So I thought ok thats cool everything will be good. I was chomping at the bit to see if it had come in and had sent him an e-mail, but I got no response. So I gave it a few more days and then decided to call. I got my phone card and went down to the AT&T phone center and called the gun shop. This was the 10 of October. The gun shop guy said it should be there on the 13th and I ended the phone call with a very large grin on my face.

So I finished up my time in Iraq and made it back home. I drove to Austin today and the gun shop was very busy. They were having sales on AR-15's and as I came into the store, 2 gentlemen exited with XD-M cases in hand. I was very pleased with the Store, and the Service folks. I was going to have the Night Sights put on, but my Sales Rep said I would have to come back in 2 days to pick it up. I told him I wouldnt be able to do that as I have to go back to work and my CHL class is on Saturday. He said wait a min and he would see what he could do. Well 30 min later he came back and said one of the Gun Smiths will be able to mount my Sights and it should be done in an hour or so. I browesed the shop and looked at all the cool things they had. I had been in Iraq, just seeing green grass and the leaves changing color is cool for me. So I bought my XD on election day, and I will never forget about the great time I had in the Big City of Austin. :txflag:

Is it just me, or is data.hodgdon.com running a bit slow? Swamped by folks digging out the reloading gear and rechecking loads they haven't used in a while, maybe?

My son bought a DPMS second upper with a 16" bull barrel for his RRA 24" varminter. It came in the mail today, 2 days later. I went online to the same site to order one for myself today, and all of their short barrel AR uppers are sold out, no back order.

:grumble

Too bad too. The price was pretty good.

I have noticed that several firearms related sites were very slow today. I've also already seen increases in prices and dwindling stock.

I met a guy maybe late 30,s early 40's last night at Cabelas in FT.W, who was buying 17 handguns just to put them away for investing purposes....17...Geez.

HK, Sig, Ruger...you name it he had it. I did not see the grand total price wise.

ATF will receive his paperwork for sure.
