Gift cards from where?

Post by mr.72 »

So I figure an EBR is likely in my immediate future, hopefully before the Obamaban. My in-laws and other relatives usually ask my wife what they should get me for my upcoming birthday and Christmas, and they like to give gift cards. All from one place would make it possible to pool them to help purchase something bigger.

So what would that one place be?

I am guessing Academy would be the best, considering the convenience factor. Do they have a selection of EBRs? If I can't get enough EBR money, maybe a Ruger 10/22 or another pistol.

Go to Kroger and look at the Gift Card display. The best one to buy is the Mastercard or Visa one that is for a specific amount of money. That IMHO is the best one.

I'd say either Academy, Bass Pro Shops, or Cabelas.

That's what I'm asking for come Christmas and my Birthday (Jan.) :thumbs2:

Well, Cabalas is about a 1+ hr drive from my house. The nearest Bass Pro is over 40 minutes. I have an Academy almost across the street from my office, and one less than 2 miles from my house.

The generic Visa or Mastercard ones sound like a good idea ... but you know people like to think they are getting you something more specific. Otherwise I'd tell them to just send cash!

Yeah, and there is no activation fee for the cash.

Why not just tell your wife what you want and where and let her coordinate family donations towards your Christmas present.

Plus, Bass Pro has a company policy of not selling EBRs at all, so a gift card from them would be useless in this endeavor.

:thumbs2: That way you get to unwrap a package on Christmas morning rather than just opening an envelope.

You should check into how long they are good for too. Some go down in value or expire if you wait to long to use them. I don't know about Academy but it shouldn't be hard to pop in and get one. Lucky you’re that close, I have to drive 70 miles.

I really don't care about having a gift to open. But I don't see my wife actually buying a gun for me. No way!

If you have to choose for a local shop then Academy is not a horrible choice. Cabelas usually has a better selection. Bass Pro has ECRs (Evil Camoed Rifles) on the shelf now but none in basic black unfortunately. At the end of it all the generic Visa/Mastercard/Amex are a better choice as you get freedom of vendors that way. But they usually have a convenience fee added which the store specific cards won't have.

I'll throw out a different suggestion though if they all want to get a gift certificate from a specific place.

CMMG

They make a decent EBR. Some would say one of the better quality options at a much better price. Only down side is if they give you too much at one place and you can't find enough to buy there. Hard to imagine you couldn't find something else on the CMMG site you might "need" though
