Fist IWB holster

Post by Shaggy »

I have been searching for a IWB holster for my G27 but so far everything I have seen or tried carries it too high and its top heavy along the beltline. What I want is something that carries it low and about the same as if there we no holster at all and it were just tucked into my pants.

I think I may have found just what I am looking for and it will allow me to adjust it to fit me perfectly.

Does anyone have any experience with Fist holsters?

Second question, Kydex or leather? I am leaning towards leather mainly because I prefer natural materials and I have been reading that Kydex has a tendency to scratch and put wear marks on the metal parts of the gun.

I am looking really hard at this one...

I have a FIST K3 for my Kahr.

I love it.

However I am not so convinced that the J-hook is any good. It is simple and easy to get on and off, though. I like the looks of this velcro holster for adjustable ride and cant but they also have one that will allow adjustment of ride and cant using Chicago screws, which may work better IMHO.

I say get Kydex. I like the firm retention. The gun snaps into the FIST kydex holster.

Holsters are a personal preference. What works for person 1 may not work for person 2, as body types and "pain thresholds" differ from person to person. So my recommendation is to find a store with LOTS of holsters and see which one works for you. But before I offer my opinion, I will offer my body type: 6', 170lbs, 32-34 waist.

For OWB, I prefer kydex, but for IWB, I prefer leather. Why leather for IWB? Again, personal choice, but I find it conforms better inside the waist band. When I've tried kydex IWB's, I could not get it to fit right, and the kydex ones I tried dug into my hip when seated.

So, my current IWB choice is the High Noon Split Decision. I use this when I carry my Kahr CW9. I like it, it rides nice, fits well, and allows me to "tuck" the shirt in if needed.

Good luck finding a holster.

Shaggy,
Fist makes good holsters. My wife has a leather OWB, I have a Kydex (K7) IWB. The ultra thin Kydex is great.
I carry a G33 alot. Glocks are thick. Any holster like the K1B (your link) or K7 that has the belt attachment on the holster will make it thicker.

I would suggest something like the Comp-Tac Minotaur, with the belt attachments in front of and behind the gun.
I have the Minotaur Spartan model. The Minotaurs can be adjusted for height relative to your beltline.
The Fist K1 with the leather IWB belt loops might be OK. But it doesn't look like you can adjust the 'ride height'.

My favorite IWB for my G33 is a CrossBreed IWB.*****
However, I can't recommend one now. The price has gone up from $38 to $65 and you have to pay an extra $7.50 for "Combat Draw". You can't get a shooting grip on your pistol when it's in a standard holster. I got a 'Combat Grip' model for $38 and I cut leather off of it and punched extra holes and ground Kydex off.

You will probably have several holsters by the time you find 'Your' favorite. Good luck!

One further comment I'll add is that with my body type, I can not conceal anything with a 0 cant. Both my OWB and IWB are cant'd forward. That may be something for you to consider as well.

I ordered the Fist right after my original post and it just arrived today. I had also been using one of these for the last month and while I like it, its not perfect for the 27. http://tennesseeholstercompany.com/our_stuff.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Its more suited to my 19 or 22 but still comfy enough for the 27 even though it does carry it a bit higher than I like.

Anyway... the Fist is perfect for me it almost feels like I am not even wearing a holster. Just need the thick gun belt I ordered at the Dallas show to show up. :coolgleamA:

I know I'm late to the party, but how about no holster at all?

In my "carrying" mode, I prefer the trigger to be "covered". The clip draw leaves the trigger unprotected, which scares me.

I had one on my 27 for a couple years, and never had any issues, but I did get reeeeaaallly good at Israeli carry.

Ouch!! :eek6
I have read of many horror stories that accompanies that type of carry. I am sure that you will be able to find a holster that will meet you needs. I have read glowing reports on a particular holster, and think...that's what I need!! Only to find out that it just will not work for me. I think it just comes with CHL...a drawer full of holsters.

I agree, also, that the cant is one of the most important thing to consider for concealability. It will keep the butt of the grip from protruding out the back. There are many things to consider when looking for a holster, you size and what will work comfortably with the size of pistol you carry. It would be nice if you had some friends that would let you try out different types of holsters.

I am not very big...5/8 140, and out of all the holsters that I have tried, and there have been many, the one I use daily to carry my Colt Officers Model .45 is a Milt Sparks Summer Special at 4:30. Of course you will have to ware and out of the waist band type shirt and there are many that don't look goofy, or have big flowers on them, or a light jacket.

Hang in there, I am sure you will find something that will work for you. :thumbs2:

Good Luck

When I got my G26, it came with a Galco UDC286. It was all right IMO. I ordered a Bare Asset one and love it. I am sure there are better ones out there that I plan on buying, probably the Split Decision. In the mean time, I will keep looking. I usually just wear it around the house since I don't have my plastic yet.

It is probably a little late, but I bet Plaxico Burress would have appreciated it if you had sent him that link about a month ago.
