Just curious as to why the ladies are put in with the beginners? Shouldn't it be either a ladies class or a beginners class?

What, so ladies can't be in the beginners class? Or that beginners can't be ladies? I don't think there's any implied restrictions on who should attend the classes. The ideas is to no doubt encourage women to get involved and here's an intro class for them plus anyone one else to attend.

I know that there have been women at the Low Light pistol class and Combat Pistol class that have taken place in the past couple of weeks.

No need to read anything into it.

Not what i meant at all. I just found it interesting that ladies needed to be mentioned specifically. Men weren't, youth weren't...

Hi All,

I have 322 members, and about 45% or so are women. Many have never held or fired a firearm before.

The reason I specifically mention women, is that based on my experience running the group women beginners tend to be more nervous/shy/intimidated around firearms than there male counterpart. This is NOT meant to be sexist in ANY way as I have many very strong female shooters, many of which can out shoot me.

Part of the mission of my group is to help bring new female shooters into the sport (and CHL), and I make an extra effort to make them feel welcome and comfortable. I have found that specifically inviting them helps reduce them feeling the class may not be for them.

Yeah, I let the "description" slide but I was somewhat put off/discouraged by the "For Ladies and Beginners" comment also. If this is a beginners class, then it should be stated as "beginners". If a special invite to ladies is needed to encourage them to attend, that's fine.

I appreciate you trying to get more ladies to participate and to not feel intimidated. But the comment "For Ladies and beginners" implies (to me) that we/ladies as a group are on the same level as beginners. I think that compvest was just pointing out that a beginners class is a beginners class, period!!

It's difficult to know how best to word things.....and it's probably a lose, lose situation you find yourself in ;-)

With that said, as soon as things settle down around my home (my father passed away and I'm still dealing with the paperwork nightmare) I will certainly look into possibly joining your group and participating in some of the shooting and social affairs.

Thank you QB. :clapping:

Perhaps stating that this is a co-ed beginners class would be a better way of stating it.

Hi, I don't know if you're aware of it, but the Dallas Pistol club is hosting a Women's day every 3rd Saturday http://dallaspistolclub.com/womens.php and it is in your neck of the woods!

I went last month - it was geared toward beginners, but there were women shooters of all experience levels. It was fun!

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I went through that with my mother and grandmother a few years ago and it's not anything you'd wish on your worst enemy! I can relate to what you're going through!
