30.06 at Jones Hall?

Post by ghentry »

I'm heading to Jones Hall tomorrow night to hear the Houston Symphony. Does anyone know if it is posted?

I don't know if it's posted, but the City of Houston owns Jones Hall. They have gotten the memo in most cases.

When you find out for sure, please post the information in this thread:

You know how rowdy those opera and ballet fans can be. They're worse than wrestling fans.

Remember, in opera, the big lady on the stage wears a viking hat and carries a spear. I would want to protect myself from that too!! "rlol"

It's like the State Fair. The event itself is much safer than the walk back to your car after dark.

Exactly. Downtown isn't the safest place to be after dark. Well I'll let everyone know tomorrow what I saw.

I suspect that my flimsy attempt at irony failed.

When I talked about rowdy opera fans, I was referring to the rationale that the management of Sarofim Hall might have for posting 30.06 signs. I can see having metal detectors at a hip-hop or heavy metal performance, but posting a concert hall that is used for classical music is ridiculous.

I know the journey is the dangerous part. If the destination were dangerous, you just wouldn't go.

Went last night, and could not see any signage whatsoever, not even a GunBusters sign.

Good. That's settled.

How was the concert?

I enjoyed it, but it could have been better. It was "The Music of the Eagles" with a rock band, 3 vocalists and the Houston Symphony. My biggest complaint is that it was mixed poorly so that you could barely hear the orchestra on most of the songs. It probably would have been better if they had done it "unplugged" as the guitars and drums overwhelmed everything else.

Also, since these were not the actual Eagles, the vocals while "ok", just didn't compare to the real thing, which made some of the songs lacking. The guitarists, however, were very good. Overall I enjoyed it just for the uniqueness of the event (free tickets didn't hurt either), but really wish it would have been all that it could have been.

My impression of what you described is "ick." I guess that's why the tickets were free.

Interesting. So the Houston Symphony Orchestra plays the part of "Eagles Tribute Band"? How was Tequila Sunrise?

Is it okay to listen to "Tequila Sunrise" while carrying?

Don Henley does. At least when he's home in Cass County. ;-)
