I heard the discussion this morning early on the way in...They were talking about the billboard our buddy here put up for everyone to see...
They of course had the ninnie from the Brady Campaign talking about mostly their concession that it may improve the situation...I was actually a surprise coming from them...But the usual implications of blood in the streets vs. the deterrent of visible weapons in the hands of us civilians is (as he put it) disturbing and would cause an un-easyness in the public that is not aware of these issues...
I believe the initial public opinion is in our favor on this issue...
I was always concerned that the general public would react negatively to open carry, but I tempered that with the knowledge that our community would conduct itself with the usual high caliber attitude and respect to those who are a little nervous around "guns"...
The argument for and against is well documented here...I think both sides have valid concerns and reasoning behind the positions...What we need to make sure doesn't happen is the debate getrting bogged down in semantics and not at least get the issue to a vote on the floor...I (and many others here) would accept either outcome I'm sure...
I also believe that the reason behind the attention this issue is getting is the fact that we do have a Federal administration coming online that is absolutely not going to be friendly to our cause...And will do what they can to utterly destroy our inalienable right to keep and bear arms...
This is just a thorn in their side...And the quicker we can get it into state law, the harder it may be to take it away without a very clear fight...
Just my opinion...

Re: Open Carry Poll at KTRH
I heard the news spot on KTRH 740 AM in Houston this morning. Peter Hamm of the Brady Campaign to [Ban All Guns] made the statement, "it [open carry] would be better than concealed carry." Humm, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, it was from opponents to CHL in 1991, 1993 and 1995. He also said, "some people just want to play cowboy."

Hmmm....
Now why would Mr. Hamm say such a thing? Surely he's not actually a proponent of open carry!

Re: Open Carry Poll at KTRH
Pete Hamm, or him implying that some of us wanna play cowboy???
(rhetorical)
What gets me is that there are a ton of states out there that have this option, and that I just don't hear about criminals blatantly targeting those that open carry by shooting them first or making moves to snatch the gun from those folks...Those being the first knee-jerk comments or "concerns"...
If we don't get it, I'm ok with that, we still have the CHL for now; or if the effort (bill) forces the very valid concerns and impact upon current law as Charles has explained in the past, then to me its not going to be a good deal...
It needs to stand on its own...
Just my opinion...

I voted yes, but I think if I had the choice, my choice would be not to show off my heat. Keep 'em guessing.

Joe Pags (http://kprcradio.com/pages/pags.html) had an open carry discussion on 950 am from 3:00 to 4:00 pm this afternoon. It was an interesting discussion. My opinion is if I have a choice, I'll choose concealed carry. But I do support the option of open carry if someone chooses.
