I think I will just go ahead and max out all my credit cards buying ammo. Then I will file bankruptcy and request a gubbamint bailout. Maybe I can do my part in loosening up the credit market. :biggrinjester:

You have to use a home improvement loan or you don't qualify for the bailout. "rlol"

I have enough for .223 and several other calibers that I don't wish to post it on the internet.

I went with my buddy one day as we hit Walmart after Walmart buying the Federal bulk packs of .22 until he had bought 46 of them.

I asked him to imagine the national media. "When the two were stopped, they were in possession of 26,000 rounds of dangerous ammunition."

This has got to be the first time I've seen a thread bragging about how much ammo you haven't bought.

1k rounds can go pretty fast. If rationed to 100rds per visit or month. You only get 10 range visits or months. My family goes way more often and shoots allot more than that. For a frequent shooter(s), going shopping every time you want to go to the range is just silly. Unless you’re a once a year or a once in a blue moon type shooter, buying a box or two locally and/or ordering in small quantities is more expensive. I usually stock up on what we need about once a year unless I see deals that I just can't pass up.

Of course buy what you can afford, but If you don't have enough to make an Ammo fort. You need more.

I get e-mails from CTD in Ft. Worth and CDNN Sports in Abilene all the time pedaling their wares which include ammo and mags. Check 'em out - but watch the shipping fees.

I've come to realize that if I need more than 10 or 12 loaded mags, I'm likely going to need a flak jacket and surgical kit before I'll need to reload.
it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

I think you're probably right. For those of us who are not professional pistoleros, any gun fight we get into is probably going to be over, one way or another, about the time the first 10 round clip is emptied. OTH, you oughta' carry a spare in the event the BG is a worse shot than you are.

I did this exact thing last summer when prices were "reasonable" and availability was high. I didn't hit the local Wal-Mart, though, but I hit the ones in Tyler. :bigear: We stockpiled 9mm, 45acp, #4 shotshells, and those Federal .22 bulk packs.

One of the clerks at one of the stores once asked me if I was planning to invade Canada. I very seriously replied that I was not.

We ended up buying as much as we had ammo cans to fill. My regret is that I didn't get twice as much as I did; I could be profiting right now by selling the extras. If the prices return to sane levels again, you can bet I'll load up all over again.

Enough for what?

An afternoon at the range? A hurricane? A 3-day carbine class?

This is similar to the question how many guns is enough? The answer is simple, if you know how many guns you have or if you know how much ammo you have on hand without thinking, you probably dont have enough!

I hate to feel like I'm hording, but it's getting old real fast with seeing the ammo shelves empty 4 out of 5 times. So out of frustration I have tended to buy more than I probably actually need for any of the above, but at least I'll have it. I've already cut back on my range trips just to not cut too far into my stash.

As to the original question, I don't think 1k rounds of any caliber is 'too much'.

For the range buy what you need to shoot on a given day. If you think you want to go to war with your civil .223 go enlist. There is will be no US civil war for the rest of of your life. For anything else, there is no need for 0.223

Oh...and FYI..what is one of the ONLY tangible objects in this country that seems to NOT depreciate?
Ammo and guns! Look at firearm and ammo prices 5 years ago to today...methinks if you bought it cheap and stacked it deep..you would be looking at a SUBSTANTIAL profit!
