New to the site
Hi, I will be taking my CHL class in a few days with the chltx.com guys in Arlington. Have sent my money to the state and am about to start the great wait. :( . Have been on the packing.org forums to get most of my newbie information and gun lasw, and ran across this site. Site looks great and its nice to talk to people in texas rather than people from other states mixing valueable information.
Where I'm at so far, opinions are welcome.
Will be carying a Walther P99 .40 with hydra-shoc ammo.
Got the "the Answer" IWB holster from tucker Gunleather. (in the mail)
Weapons in the house are in a gunvault, and a lockbox for the car for storage.
Only have a few questions.
one is, can I cary at work with an OK from the owner before I have my CHL? and if so It is still legal for me to have the weapon in my car to transport it to and from work. Reason I ask is I work at a Stereo shop and when I mentioned to my boss I was getting my CHL he was all for it being in the shop for protection. Plus I figured it would give me some real world cary experience (at work) to help out my 1st real day of cary.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum!!
I would think that you could.... And the only reason I say this is because every privately owned gun range or gun store you go to the people behind he counter are carrying... Open carry too...
So I would think this is something that the owner permitted... Just my 2 cents...
Chas and TX and a few other can give you a real answer...
Anyway welcome to the forum and we look forward to future conversations...

Depends on what you do at your job. If the work premise is under your control while you are working, then Texas law makes an exception to the UCW law and you can carry there, concealed or not, loaded or not.spud wrote: Only have a few questions.

Basically, are you in control of the premises? Can you control who comes and goes? Do you have the authority to ask person to leave?
You can also be in possession while traveling, and I suggest you search this site and look at a few threads regarding traveling.
Texas Penal Code
§46.02. Unlawful carrying weapons.
(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally,
knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his person a handgun,
illegal knife, or club.
§46.15. Nonapplicability.
(b) Section 46.02 does not apply to a person who:
(2) is on the person's own premises or premises under the
person's control .......

Dear spud....welcome...this is a great sight and really focuses on TX issues for most part...although we get alot of visitors from other parts of country as well.....
Re: your carry question at work....although there may be more informed that I...txinvestigator is great in this area...anyway...I would say yes as to carry with owners permission (and blessing sounds like) and he controls the premises. W/out your CHL thusfar, I would suggest placing your handgun bag in the locked trunk to and from work....unless you are traveling through at least 3-5 counties ..."the TX travelin law" (which would be a good commute each way each day)...lol
Others might want to offer opinions on this....above just my take!

welcome spud. Glad to have another one aboard. How do you like the Answer holster for you P99? How easy does it go on? I have looked at it for a friend that does not do internet. He wants to start regular carry but the only holster he has is a cheep nylon. I have a CTAC & the wings have taken a little getting used to. He does not like it. The Answer clips are on the leather so might be easier. Youy thoughts may be new but still valid.
See you in print.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

University in Same Building as me.....Hmmmm?
Spud....I would think while at work....you could be concealed or open carry in that you controlled the premises...
I have interesting issue....I control my suite of offices about 1474 sqaure feet and 5-6 individual offices and break room. We are located in an office building groud floor. I am the Pres & CEO and I decide who comes, goes, hire, fire, etc.
I have applied for my CHL (Day 55). Sounds good if I wanted to carry concealed...however, there is an accredited University offices on the same floor as my offices some 300 feet away. Their classes are held on the floor above ours.
As I read it...we share school property (in same building) accordingly, I would/should not be able to carry concealed in my own offices should I so desire. Yall agree with my analysis?
Ok...."Deal or No Deal"...haha

Thanks for the replys.
"The Answer" holster is in the mail, c-tac dosent make a holster for the newer P99s and I have heard MANY great reviews for the answer and the P99.
As for carying at work, seems like it is a go. Just got to wait for the holster to get here so I can break it in. Ill post a review on that holster and gun combo on the holster forums when I get use to it.
Thanks again.

Re: .
I think it's the order in which you do things. In my case I took my class at a gun range that covered everything. Finger prints, Notary and walked us thru the paper work. Then we took all the papers and sent them in with a money order to Austin. After 30 days your entered into the system and given a PIN number. You paid first so I guess it works differently.spud wrote:Well got my PIN by email 3 days after payment was sent in. And I take my class tomorow. Seems odd, most people get the PIN I have seen in 50 or so day. Wonder what is up with that.
