If Open Carry Passes Now What Changes Do You Make?

Open carry would be an OPTION not something that is MANDATORY such as concealed carry.
This is where something that is mandatory is an infringement upon rights.

Open carry "No" even if it were legal
Show the bad guys I am armed "No"
Not worrying about the occasional shirt slip PRICELESS
I think open carry although a great thing, amounts to fair warning to the BG.
I was taught not to fight fair, I was taught to stay alive.

What would I change. Probably nothing at all except I wouldn't have to worry about the shirt comming up on the Harley.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.Pinkycatcher wrote:I would only open carry my cowboy action .45 in a real holster, with a full stock of ammo, when I wear my cowboy outfit. Which isn't often
1) Continue your normal concealed carry
2) Add a western-style revolver with a nice leather holster
Problem solved.
The holster market could take off if people are open carrying. . . now function and design will be important.
"Honey, does this shirt look okay with these boots? Which holster should I wear? See - I thought that one was too formal. This one is more 'business casual.'"

I'll jump in.
I will OC when it suits what I am doing and the weather here on the coast dictates it - going to hardware stores, grocery stores and the like.
I will not OC to church.
I will wait and see how things go. I think if it was to pass the issues will fade rapidly.

If Open Carry becomes the law, I would expect a LOT more business posting 30.06...or the new needed variation of same.
Personally, I would rather not take the risk! I LIKE to be armed at the 99% of places I go now.

As others have said, I'd love to have the option if I so choose to do so, but day to day more often than not I would still CC.

That right there is my main concern. Like some have already stated, if it did pass, I will still CC but not worry as much about accidental exposure.mr surveyor wrote:If Open Carry becomes the law, I would expect a LOT more business posting 30.06...or the new needed variation of same.

that's exactly my feelings! I would love to carry either IWB or OWB to a nice restruant, or other place that would normally require a gentleman (like myself

What I want, and what I can actually visualize as possible are two totally different things.
My dear departed Dad always told me (as many other's Dads did) that "You can hope in one hand and"..... well, you know the rest. In the end, you may not really want what's in either hand!
just my opinions, of course

Re: If Open Carry Passes Now What Changes Do You Make?
I cant find anything like a bill on open carry in Texas. Is this something that will be coming before the Legislature? I am probably missing something somewhere, but all I can recall is an online petition. Perhaps someone with more savvy like Flint or Excaliber can direct me to a link?
That said, should it ever be an option, I dont think it would change much for me unless Im out in more rural areas such as my old deer lease in Camp Wood, where some of the ranch hands already carry open into town without any problems with the local LE. Around urban areas, I would prefer to be concealed. I have alot invested in my carry weapons and I dont want some thug to take a liking to my Kimber and ambush me for it. To me its kind of like flashing wads of money, then wondering why I got robbed of it. I think I would feel more secure with it concealed. I use a holster with a finger break because I love fishing the rocks at night, and would cry if my gun were to fall into the saltwater while fighting a huge fish. (like that ever happens
). I dont see any problems with SERPA holsters as long as you practice as much with them as you do your weapon. Muscle memory.

From what I have read, this is something that is not written up in a bill yet, but they hope to have it written as a bill before the next session.asleepatthereel wrote:I cant find anything like a bill on open carry in Texas. Is this something that will be coming before the Legislature?
If open carry becomes legal, count me out. I thought about it and I think if things went bad, the first people shot arethe ones with guns showing. I will continue CC.

Why give up the advantage of surprise??? It would be nice, as stated by many others, to not worry about a "wardrobe malfunction" exposing that unmentional firearm.

I can't speak for everyone...but as a proponent for Open Carry (as an option), I am not asking/requiring anyone to "give up the advantage of surprise".
If you choose to remain concealed under ALL conditions, great! For me, I would open carry in some instances, and Conceal Carry in others. What I want is the "choice".
It goes without saying....that some environments favor one mode of carry over the other. If I am out to dinner and would like to remove my coat/sport jacket..it would be nice not to be in violation of what I think is a ridiculous law.
Conversely, if I were a wrecker driver....reposessing a vehicle in a neighborhood of gang-bangers, common sense suggests I would do better to conceal (and have help).
But, honestly...I can think of very few situations (for civilians) where the supposed "element of surprise" really turns out to be an advantage. Nonetheless, those who would be more comfortable with CC could continue to carry that way...and simply let those who wish/need to Open Carry have it their way.
I am NOT tying to convince anyone that OC is "better", I just want everyone to have the choice.

I would probably not change very much, just wouldn't worry as much about printing.
