You can shoot BG in back but make sure his lookout doesn't shoot you in the back.

If you just stepped out of the bathroom, your back is either to the bathroom, which, generally being a one-holer, you should have cleared before you used it, or you're in a lille hallway with the cooler or storage room door behind you.

In the OP, you see a guy holding a gun on the clerk. That's all the info you have. BTin makes the following excellent point.

IMHO, the best course of action is to retreat to any available cover, call 911 if able, and be ready to protect yourself.

You don't want to end up explaining why you shot the cop, or the clerk's friend who was showing him a gun, etc.

I don't know...I think I would be able to tell the difference between an undercover police officer and a robber. If the clerk is trying to fumble around with the cash in the register, I'm going to make the judgment that he is being robbed. Yes, I will shoot the BG in the back given the opportunity to protect or save a life.
