AR too short for my gun safe

Post by Tallinthesaddle »

Even with the stock extended, my AR with a 16 inch barrel would not reach the first row of rifle rests. One solution was to buy a stock extension. But after a visit to Lowes, I had a short piece (4") of 1" PVC pipe and an elbow. I glue gunned the two together, stuck a silk stock into the pipe, and put it over the end of the AR just enough to reach the top of the rifle rest. This idea would probably with with any short rifle if the front sight is not too tall.

I use a wooden dowel in the barrel.

Or you can try these:

Rifle Rod - I never would have figgured that one out. I kept trying gun safe rifle extension, barrel extension for safe, etc. Thanks, the PVC takes up some space.

Agreed, I saw those pistol hangers on the web and said ' I can do that. " I had a 10ft piece of 1/4 rod in the shop, and a harbor freight bending machine just asking for a task. a few minutes figuring the length and a piece of heat shrink to protect the bore. Made 5 of them in 10 minutes. Clears up a bunch of room in the safe. A slick idea, very easy to copy.
Must buy more guns now......
