I was just curious to those who have taken CHL classes, whether new or renewals, and to instructors out there... How many people have failed the shooting proficiency? Did the instructor do a detailed analysis of score, or was it because of other reasons (such as a violation of safety rules)?
There's not a lot of "detailed analysis of score." You either shoot 175+ or you don't; it's simple addition. I had one lady in my very first CHL class who couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle and was as dangerous as they come. The only thing she didn't do was point the gun at me.

When class was over, I talked with her to arrange a reshoot and see what was wrong. Turns out she'd never been on a firing-line with other people. Her husband had taught her to shoot at some point; that always works well :skep:. The same husband insisted that she had to shoot a caliber beginning with the number "4" and the day of the class was the first time she'd ever fired a .40 S&W or a Glock 27. And to top it all off, she ignore my warning about hot brass and low cut blouses. Sure enough, first fired case went down the hatch and a dangerous version of the "funky chicken" followed immediately.

In the same class, I had to kick two other people off the line for safety issues and they happened to be a couple shooting in two different relays of the same class. Again, it was a case of an unqualified husband training the wife. I swear the "lady" was a recently retired…uh, um…”dancer” with obscenely large, non-bio…ah, never mind. Anyway, her anatomy made basic administrative tasks difficult.

I caught the husband in this case stuffing rounds into his magazine, backward. Then he didn’t know how to operate the manual de-cocking/safety lever. So, it was apparent that any training conducted by this husband for the benefit of his wife was little more than Ray Charles giving Stevie Wonder driving lessons.. And if I didn't know better, I would have been convinced the husband was the "gentlemen's club equivalent of Gecko45 with a serious Napoleon complex. Just my $0.02.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

When we went to the range shortly before our requal, I ran her through the course with the little gun, and she would have passed without a problem. Then I talked her into trying the same course of fire with my XD9.

When we requaled, using the XD9 she fired a perfect score, and decided to keep my XD, I haven't replaced it yet.
Yup, the XD9 seems to rock for accuracy. We got my wife an S&W 642 revolver, but she likes my XD9 more, and will probably be carrying that instead when her plastic arrives. She did better on the proficiency test than I did, btw.
Springfield XD(m) 9mm 3.8 | Springfield XD-45 Compact | Springfield XD-9 Service
Kimber Pro CDP II .45 ACP | Kimber Pro Aegis II 9mm w/Crimson Trace | Walther PPS 9mm
Bushmaster AR-15 w/Magpul pistol grip and foregrip, Bushnell holosight

I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.
