Amarillo Police investigate possible robbery ending in the death of intruder

Around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers arrived and found a black male that had been shot in the 4100 block of S. Hughes.
Detectives on the scene said that it looked like an attempted home invasion robbery, that ended with the homeowner shooting and killing one of the intruders. Two black males are reported to have forced entry into the home. One of the intruders fled the scene after the shooting. It is unknown how bad the second intruder may be injured, but K-9 units are following a blood trail left behind by the fleeing suspect.
"So far what we're being told is that the homeowners had two black males who had forced their way into the home. The homeowner used a long rifle, or a long gun, and fired several shots at these two black males, obviously striking one at least one time in the upper body", said Lt. Gary Trupe of the Amarillo Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives gather more evidence.
