online dps application

Post by longhornmike »

i filled out the dps online application and paid the fee with my credit card.

i'm curious , 26 years ago when i was 25 years old i got a dwi. i reported this on the application but did not no the exact day and month.

i put an approximate day and month , but later noticed that they mention having to get some kind of report from the city or county.

even for something this long ago?

it's good to be older and wiser these days.

Yep. Call the clerk of the court in the county where it happened and see what they can do for you.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Probably not. They probably will have no record of the arrest, and they can provide a letter saying that they have no record of your conviction, which is what counts.

WRONG!!

Just do as suggested and get the information from the county of the arrest. Unless it was a felony, and it was long enough ago, you will probably be OK.

If THEY find out about something which you didn't include on your application, kiss it all good-bye.

like i said , i wanted to be honest it was just so long ago i don't remember the details.

in 1983 a dwi wasn't as serious as it is today. of course it should have been.

thank god i learned my lesson early.

Agreed... just do as suggested, it's the best advice you've probably gotten all day.

That's true, but regardless of how the crime was classified when you committed it, DPS looks at what it is in Texas today.

IOW, DWI might have been a class C misdemeanor in 1983 (I don't know), but DPS considers it to be a class B or A today.

look , i understand how serious these things are , i am51 years old now , raised 3 kids , been married 32 years , etc.

my point is this was 26 years ago and would not disqualify me from a chl , so going through the process of documentation is beauracratic crap !
