Need help finding a good 1911.

Hi yall,

I am looking for opinions on a good 1911. I want a show piece that is stainless. It can be any size. I do however have a limited budget. I have a budget of about 500$ but can prob. get up to 700$

I'm sick and tired of carrying a plastic pistol. I like my glock 30 but it just doesn't feel good when I carry it. Its like there is something missing.

I saw the picture below in another forum and really want something that looks similar but I haven't seen one anywhere.

The main requirements are:

[0] must be A 1911 style.
[1] has to be reliable
[2] I want it to be shiny. (stainless or chromed, whatever its called)
[3] can't be too expensive.
[4] can be any size.

I really need some recommendations here. I was thinking about the para ordinance 1911 I saw at academy but idk. I really love the gun below.

I'll take two of those Colts if you find them for $500. I got an SS Springer Ultra Compact (.45) loaded with night sights before Christmas and it was closer to $800. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

No one else said this, so I will. I believe finding a 1911 with the specifications you mention for $500 is wishful thinking. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just trying to be realistic. If you want a solidly reliable, accurate 1911 that you can trust with your life you need to be willing to spend at least $1,000 IMHO. I was in your same boat years ago, and I put my money where my mouth is and I carry a 1911 that I have absolute trust in. And, I'm pretty much a one gun guy. So I'd encourage you to save your nickels, do your research, do a lot of looking for used guns, and then when you see the right one...pounce! Buy one gun and train with it exclusively and you'll be amazed at the results.

And for the record I carry a Wilson Combat CQB.

From what I have seen both reliable and accurate are very costly. SS adds a couple 100 to the mix usually. If this is a CHL piece then reliable is more important as you not engaging that far and the target is big (torso). RIA, Taurus, Springfields can be gotten under $700 (maybe sans SS) and are reliable and fairly accurate.

Bud's has the Colt Defender for $830 (+/-), they also have Taurus PT1911 SS for about $600. Your choice?

Yea I agree. I'm still pricing.

I think the colt defender is just about right for me. but I'm not sure yet.

My opinion on 1911 is ... well. Hardly any 1911 is made with the same quality that many other modern handguns are, especially if they are the same price.

$600 will land you a NIB Glock, CZ or XD, or a manufacturer certificated used Sig or HK. Far better guns than almost any $1000 1911 not to mention cheaper ones. If you don't like plastics, take a certified used Sig 239 or CZ RAMI.

If you really like 1911 like I do, look up http://www.1911forum.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and pay extra attention to the manufacturers sub-forums to get ideas about quality.

My personal experience is ... not worth the money and won't buy another one until I win lottery but ironically i carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II. well if you read my story about the Kimber and others' stories, you would probably understand.

I've had my eye on a Colt Defender for quite some time now...and I'm still saving up my nickles and dimes, I think it is going to take awhile.

well my current ccw is a glock 30. I 100% trust my life to it but I would rather carry my 1911. I've got a springfield armory GI edition in green.

I want to start fresh with a new 1911. I might sell both my glock and 1911 but idk yet. I'm sure I can get at least 900 for both.

Or I could sell my AR.
