MESQUITE — The driver of a van was shot and wounded on a Mesquite freeway early Sunday morning.

Police said the victim was traveling eastbound on Interstate 30 near the Big Town Boulevard exit when shots rang out around 3:30 a.m.

The driver was shot in the face and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The victim's name and condition were not available.

The assailant's description and motive were unknown.

Last month, a former Utah state trooper shot and killed two motorists in a series of shootings in Garland and Dallas. Brian Smith later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Should have banned all state troopers.
Please help the wounded store owner who fought off 3 robbers. He doesn't have medical insurance.

Random act or possibly a road rage that got out of control. Who knows? This kind of crime is the scariest though. The plastic in our wallet won't save us from this situation.

The Plastic in our hands is the ONLY thing that will save us from this type of attack to ourselves and others.......We MUST always be aware of our surroundings, even when driving. I hate to hear of these incidents, but would love to hear one where a CHL holder returned fire and brought the attacker down.

I think that there may be a reason why we have not already heard of a CHL'er stopping this kind of action. Possibly because you could not tell if it was in fact a crazed gunman or if it was an undercover cop attempting an arrest.

These things tend to happen in traffic, and the witnesses and victims are typically driving, Shootiing at someone through a car window isn't an ideal situation. I would prefer to drive away from the bad guy if given an option.

My point is simply that if you don't see it coming, you can't do anything about it. Random shootings on the highway are not preventable with a CHL...or even a guided missile. Retaliation is, but that is not what our CHL's permit us to do. :tiphat:

Bingo!

Some of these guys seem to think a handgun is a magic wand that wards off evil.

I have to go through Ft. Worth and Dallas to a hospital on the far North side of Dallas...and I have never made that trip that something like this was not on my mind. But like you said there is little we can do to prevent it. Besides, they are cowards and will only sneak up on someone and ambush them. Of course, that is the MO of all criminals.
