Any interest in postal matches?

Post by killerfly128 »

Anyone have any interest in starting a monthly postal match? Different match every month with bragging rights for the winner.

here is a example

Distance: 15 yards (Standing, slow fire)
Targets: 2
Shots per target: 5
Firearm: Any handgun (see rules)
Scoring: As normal, 10 ring, 9 ring, 8 ring, and all other hits are 5 points

For this match we're going to go just a little out of our "comfort zone" by shooting a more powerful caliber or load then we normally shoot. Many of us find a caliber and load we like and stick with it. But, the NRA says for defensive shooting you should, "Shoot the largest caliber you can confidently and accurately shoot." How do we know what that is unless we try new things?

So, this month you need to "move up" a notch or two to a more powerful caliber then you normally shoot, or shoot a more powerful load in your current caliber. For example, if you normally shoot a .38 revolver, try a .357 Magnum. If you normally shoot a 9mm, try a .45 ACP. Or in any caliber you could switch from mild practice ammo to some higher velocity +P defensive loads. If you normally shoot .44 Special, try some .44 Mags. And, if you normally shoot .44 Mags, well, just keep doing what you're doing...

This is a good time for the newbies to step up from a .22 LR to any centerfire or for more experienced shooters to try something new and different. 10mm anyone?

As always, there are three ways to enter.

1. Post scans or pictures of your targets in this thread or
2. E-mail them to postalmatch@texaschlforum.com or
3. Mail a hard copy to:

Don't give up too soon -- I just now saw this. I expect a lotta people at work during the day. I've done postal matches before, can be fun.

I think the match is a bit too easy.

It was just a example pulled from another forum. If this were to get more attention i would have a thread put up for about a week so members can suggest the format for that months match, then a vote would be taken lasting another week. Then write it up and post it in a sticky somewhere every 1st of the month. so say 2 weeks before every 1st of the month you see a thread go up about a new one. I hope that makes sence to you cause im getting confused lol.

We could certainly do a postal match. I think I recall doing this a few years ago, but I may be wrong. Plus, you're reading my mind; that's part of the new Sport shooting is fun! -- Give it a shot program that's going to launch in February, but it won't be part of TexasCHLforum.com. There's no reason we can't do one here as well.

Sounds great Chas, do you have any reservations on including another forum in on the postal match?

Awesome sir, I hope we can get some things ironed out on the mechanics of it. I will be bringing this up to a Moderator on DFW stangs with the hope of bringing them in on it. There are quite a few CHLers on there as well as a bunch of shooters.

Yes I am. I joined this forum about a week ago, after lurking for about two weeks. There is a lot of educational material to be read here, a lot of possible situations, and a few people on this board have some pretty sound advice, that's just there to be followed.

I spend more time reading than I do posting, but I've got a few posts, I added my local range to the Shooting Ranges forum.

All in all, I'm glad that someone pointed me to this forum from DFWStangs. BTW, whats your SN over on DFWS?

I would be interested. I would just need to meet up with some people seeing as I only have a 9mm in my collection right now. :grumble:
So anyone in DFW (Arlington Area) want to meet up at Winchester, Alpine or anywhere else and have some fun with this? I am happy to provide my own ammo for a different pistol and clean the gun as well! :fire :fire :tiphat:

Great, after we get some more people to bite on this I think we can come up with a match that is a bit more challenging and get it movin. If you guys like we could just use the example for the first postal match.

Here is the target, It should be printed out on a standard sheet of printer paper
