A movie theater is a large space full of sound-absorbing material, so it wouldn't be as bad as shooting in a bathroom; but I'm sure it woke up the chickens. Also the pistol was a .380, so not as much bang as the larger calibers.

Another factor is when you shoot someone at extremely close range, the sound is absorbed somewhat by the body and doesn't emanate outward as much. It isn't like having a silencer on it, but it will muffle the sound some.
