Me = Bonehead

Post by cdc101 »

Well, figured out why my app was incomplete.

I got my fingerprint card back (the black and white one) on Friday only to find out that I forgot to fill in the citizenship box AND the DOB box. What wa I thinking??

Oh well, they highlighted the forgotten boxes for me and I'll be mailing it back tomorrow. We'll see how long it takes to get the process roiling again.

Wish me luck!

You might think the all powerful TXDPS might just fill that in for you? Really, the same info is on your TDL, Application, etc. Having said that....I have been sweating the same thing: "Did I fill in all of the boxes???? Is a frequent dream I have :???:
:thewave Good luck!

It's as though the DPS employees are given the instructions to delay the process as long as possible.

In defense of the bureaucrats...I would not be surprised if there is a rule against DPS modifying the parts of the applicant's form that the applicant fills in himself. Imagine if they accidently filled in the wrong info and put in the wrong DOB, citizenship, or especially SSAN, what-have-you. This could cause more problems down the road, and whose fault is it? And while it does seem redundant to fill out the same info that is on the TDL, perhaps part of process of making sure that it is really you applying for the CHL and not someone else is to have you provide all that ID info and making sure it matches what they already have on you. Granted this is a weak check, someone relatively sophisticated could eventually track down all your info, but it provides some level of confirmation.

As to the original problem-- that's why your school teacher (I hope) told you to have someone proofread your essays before turning them in -- it is really hard to see your own mistakes. If it looked OK to you the first time, it probably looks OK after that. When I lived in California, the area code for my area started with the same three digits as my SSAN. Imagine the number of times i put in my phone number for my SSAN and vice-versa without realizing it.

That's one of the things I appreciated most about my CHL class/teacher. They took a little extra time to make sure that everyone had their forms all filled out properly. We pretty much went one.field.at.a.time.
