Thoughts on this proposed trip

Post by treeman »

Going to Austin for school workshop, riding in school vehicle (assume school has no written policy), spending 2 nights in motel, meeting in Austin Convention Center. Would like to carry, but concerned about the many variables since not in own vehicle & no place to secure weapon if run into a "can't carry" situation

IANAL but I would think if it is a school sponsered trip and you are traveling in a school owned vehicle, then its illegal to carry. :banghead:

No go. Illegal.
PC §46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses
or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon
listed in Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution,
any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or
educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation
vehicle of a school or educational institution
, whether the school or
educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written
regulations or written authorization of the institution;
You said you were going in a school vehicle.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Thanks for all your input - yes it is a school owned Saburban. No students, just teachers, but school owned just the same. Looks like it is a no-no for sure - I hadn't re-read the law to realize it specifically mentioned school transportation vehicles.

I agree with what the others have said about carrying on this trip but you might suggest that Mrs. Treeman join the forum so she could ask her own questions. I am sure that the other ladies on the forum would welcome her.

One more time: What kind of school?

There are trade schools, private schools, public schools, colleges etc

If you are talking about a public school of some sort, I suspect the rules will be different.

Not that it matters, but that is probably a very bad assumption.

...schools of fish, schools of thought, the list can go on and on. We need legislators who can at least be more specific when coming up with silly restrictions.

Can you rationalize taking your personal vehicle? It'll probably cost you fuel & parking. But you'll be able to do as you like.

Feel free to use or modify for your situation. It isn't lying, it's concealing. ;-)

:iagree: This sounds like a good alternative. You really don't need to justify using your own vehicle. You might even be able to turn in an expense report for your mileage.
