Training AAR's

These may be of little interest to anyone, but I thought I'd link them. They are written for context other than a gun forum, your mileage may vary. 2 AAR's for recent classes I attended.

Hoffner's Tactical Pistol 1-Brian Hoffner. I knew little about him, but was in Houston and decided to give his class a try.

In the grand scheme of firearms training, Givens is very very reasonable for tuition. The issue is the associated costs if you don't live close to Memphis. I made about a 13 hour drive one-way for Level 3, easy to fly, but then you have to ship ammo, or buy it there, deal with TSA, risk the theft of your pistol etc...

If you follow Givens web site, he does offer off-site courses at various times. The Polite Society Conference in Tulsa is a boon for training and so inexpensive it isn't funny. It will be in April, right now I have a schedule conflict that will prevent me from attending. The list of trainers who will be at this conference is very impressive... among them in the past have been..Gabe Suarez, Jeff Gonzales, Marty Hayes, Andy Stanford, Steve Silverman, Jim Higginbotham, James Yeager, Steve Moses, John Farnam, Skip Gochenour, Alan Brosnan.

If you can get to Tulsa for this, it is a bargain.

As far as Givens goes, his Level 1 class is the Tennessee concealed handgun class. IMO, you learn a lot more than that required to just get the paper. If you had a crappy CHL instructor in Texas (i.e. reads the booklet to you or worse) you would appreciate this class. It is a benefit to concealed carriers whether you are from Tennessee or not. Level 2 is the real eye opener and the beginning of fighting with a handgun, that is where you really find out how much you don't know and get spoiled to a nice facility. It also makes you really want the next class, lather rinse repeat.
