I went to make my car payment at SACU (San Antonio Credit Union) on Ingram Exit off 410. When I walked up to the door I saw a sign like 8X4 on bottom right corner of window. It wasn't a 30.06, just a notification on window. I asked about it at cashiers and they just told me it was illegal to bring my pistol inside even if I was a CHL. I left it at that because I didn't want to mention anything about the 30.06 sign. I wasn't carrying, but since I asked, I figured I better not go back their carrying.
Just wanted to let you know, tried posting on Texas3006.com but their are no options under signs for just notice.

Thanks Russell,
I did learn that in class, but here to I have read that if you've received a verbal warning, that's the same as a 30.06 sign.
By the way, I haven't been able to find out anything on the change in the courtroom law, do you know if it passed last year?

The cashier was explaining over all no firearms are allowed in building. I didn't want to let her know that the sign was non-compliant.
I think it was in 2007, their was talk that the state legislator was going to change the law regarding courtrooms because the lower governments were adding courtrooms in buildings just to keep CHL's out of them. They were going to change to us being able to enter the building, but not the courtroom.

The OP screwed up. By asking he got verbal notice. Never ask about a non compliant sign. It is up yuo to determine ank know if if is is legal. If the sign is obviously illegal like this one is, only three things can happen.Russell wrote:Heya!
There are no options for those type of signs as they have no legal meaning. I am sure you learned in your CHL class that a 30.06 and a 51% sign are the only 2 signs that can keep you from legally carrying inside of a building under state law. They meant it when they said it
The cashiers were sorely mistaken.
1. The sign can be taken down. While Unlikely this doesn't do us any real good because we were already allowed to carry into the place.
2: The owner can inform you that it is illegal to carry and that you are not allowed to carry into the store. Therefore you will be banned from carrying into the premise.
3: the owner might investigate further and post a real 30.06 sign.
It is also important to note that the 51% sign has no legal bearing. Anyone can post them anywhere they want and CHL holders can ignore them. The 51% only serves as notice. it is up to us to recognize whether a place is 51% or not. If there is no sign and the place is 51% you atr breaking the law. If the proprieter puts up a 51% and less than 51% of the income is alcohalic beverage you can legaly carry inside.

I do understand that once I asked, I wouldn't be able to enter with my weapon in the future. I didn't tell them it was non-compliant for any other CHL's that might do business with them. I just wanted to verify whether it was only for non-CHL's or for CHL's too. I got my answer, but I don't go their to often anyhow, just thought I'd go check out the bank that bought my vehicle loan.
