I agree. If people or businesses can post a 30.06 sign and prohibit me from carrying then I should be able to post a sign or give verbal consent to allow anyone I want to carry openly or concealed, with or without a license, on my property. The antigunners yell and scream about their property rights but what about MY property rights?

Based on the initial question and comments about possible speakers, it sounds more like a political rally than a worship service so I would probably not be interested. I guess I'm a little old fashion and don't see how showing off my and others carry weapons inhances anyones worship experience or how my Lord gets much out of it for that matter.

It most likely is/was a political rally that happened to be held at a church. Without going back and reading the OP, I believe this rally was to be held on a Saturday, and most Christian denominations hold their services on Sunday. It is still nice to see those that enjoy the protections of the 1st Amendment also stand up for their protections under the 2nd. Too many people today, in all walks of life and at all levels of power, like to see laws (and Constitutional Amendments) selectively enforced.

The OP did refer to a "rally/service", but his description sounded more likely a social gathering. It didn't refer to any political party, so I wouldn't have thought of it as a political rally (unless you consider discussion/celebration of 2nd Amendment rights to be a political rally), and there was no mention of prayer or worship (that I saw) so wouldn't call it a church service. Fellowship gathering? Perhaps.

I would imagine it would be ok to do what you want to do on private property, and in cases like this, with the permission from a private property owner...

Be careful. I'm not sure there is a "with permission" exemption in Texas.

If we're on a big enough piece of private property (sufficient acreage for the use of firearms), out in the unincorporated county, outside of any ETJs, and follow all the safety rules, we can do just about whatever we want, right? I'm not talking about carrying handguns either open or concealed, just a bunch of people getting together for some 'range time.'

Or am I way off base here?

I was actually thinking about a regular Sunday worship service...Not just a special get-together...

If you wanted to take your suit coat off, therefore not being concealed, I thought it might be prudent to make sure the congregation doesn't have kittens at the sight of a holstered firearm during the service...Thats all I was alluding to...

If it became commonplace then I don't see much of a problem...

"Permission" was a bad word to use...I would change that to "scoping out the territory" before making such a change in my appearance...
