Forum,
I am seeking a class on the AR-15 Patrol Rifle.
I have my CHL and I am a new Dallas Police Officer (Reserve Battalion). I am at some point going to have to qualify to carry a Patrol Rifle. I would like to take a course, hopefully a TCLEOSE recognized course on the AR-15 Patrol Rifle.
I am unsure if DPD has their new officers go through DPD's own course, but even still, I would like to have completed a course prior to DPD's so I will be refreshed.
Thanks,
Breezy062

You might also ping T.J. Pilling at Tiger Valley. He's a former Garland SWAT officer so maybe he could help point you in the right direction.

You might try these folks: http://www.specopsystems.com/.
I took a tactical rifle course with them a couple of years ago, and can give testament to the competence of the instructor of the class I took. It was a two-day, 20-hour course. They have TCLEOSE-certified instructors, and offer LEO-only classes. But you'll probably need to contact them to see about TCLEOSE course accreditation.

You don't have to be a SWAT officer to take their courses however, you'd better be in pretty good shape. Very good courses at a very reasonable price and you will get your TCLEOSE credit.
Dallas PD has one of the best Patrol Rifle Training course of any LE agency in the country right now. A full 40 hours of dedicated marksmanship along with a thorough understanding of the AR15 rifle system. Very tough final qualification (all training and quals are done with iron sights) where you must shoot a minimum of 90% and if you have one round out of the designated border area you are out of the course. You will start off with about 12 members in your class and probably loose three or four by the end of the week. Listen to your instructors and you should be okay if you've got the right mindset.
By the way, I was working with a federal agent last week who's a HRT team member for his agency, and he's been to quite few Patrol Rifle courses around the country. He's attended federal, state, military and private schools and he confirmed that the one in Dallas is right at the top of the list - even better than his own agency's.
You're on the right track by seeking out some training prior to course as it can only help you. Also, they are just coming out with a 40 hour Advanced Patrol Rifle Course that I hear is a really high speed - low drag course -training that is usually reserved for tactical teams and Spec Ops types. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun too.
Good luck to you.
