About halfway through dinner the wife informed me there was a 51% sign high on the wall directly above my head. When we walked in that door it did not occur to me to look up, as I had always looked around at doors, windows, hostess podiums, walls behind bars, etc.
I thought their placement of the sign that high on the wall above a table in the corner of the west side of the room was a bit awkward. Anyways, we finished our dinner & drink and left the place. Looked for the 51% sign as we left through the east entrance but failed to spot one after a sweeping glance.
Last month we returned there for another Hurricane, but I didn't carry because of the previous experience. Before that we had patronized the place 3 or 4 times, but had never noticed the signs at either entrance.
Posting those signs in an out of the way location seems to be somewhat misleading and possibly not in accordance with the regulations. I thought such signs were supposed to be conspicuous. Then again, it was probably my fault for not exercising due diligence because in my mind the place is more of a restaurant than a bar - even though it's famous for the Hurricane cocktail.
BTW - Their pork tenderloin medallion dinner is excellent.
This experience has made me more alert and diligent about lookin' for these signs.
When I told him about it later, my brother chastised me for not leaving the premesis immediately. Told him I wasn't going to abandon a plate of good pork tenderloin....but hey, I skipped ordering a dessert.
