Car Gun TLC

Post by Hos »

I have a new .40 IWI Baby Eagle in my car. Any recommendations on keeping it reliable since it has to handle temperature extremes sitting there? E.g. Should I change the ammo out every month or can the gun and good quality ammo handle these temperature changes w/o sacrificing reliability?

Thanks in advance.

My guess is that you'll be fine. Texas isn't any worse than Iraq, and ammo over there seems to hold up fine, as do the weapons. I think you just need to pay attention to proper lubrication after cleaning. And of course, since the gun has to be stored out of sight inside the car, it won't be indirect sunlight anyway. . . . . right?

It shouldn't need anything additional unless it is just chucked under the floor mat or something where a lot of dirt can get to it.

I strongly suggest a car gun that's reliable without any TLC.

The Baby Eagle will run and run. Just keep it clean and lubed. No worries about the ammo.

Thanks. I'm very impressed with this "baby" so far. I enjoyed my Taurus pt-111 but it was so hard to clean compared to this IWI Baby Eagle. I've also not shot a .40 before this... Love it. Just finished selling my 9mm pt-111 for a Taurus pt-140. Still fits in my pt111 Crossbreed holster too. :cheers2:

I use Mil-Comm TW25B grease rather than oil on the pistol I keep in the car. It isn't a big deal, and even if the oil "settles" in the heat, it shouldn't make any difference in reliability for many rounds down the pipe. I just like that the gun grease stays where it's put, even in a hot car.
