My friends brother commited a non-violent felony several years ago and now they rent a house together. My friend has no record and is an upstanding taxpayer. He has some firearms that he stores at his fathers house but would like to have at least one for defense at his home. They might as well be in Antartica if he ever needs it!
Are there any stipulations that would alow him to have a firearm in his own private area of the house or locked away with himself being the only key holder? I have also heard that after a period of time a felon would be alowed to own a firearm again.
Thank you for your knowledge.

There's a five year provision in Texas law but no limit in Federal law.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

I was told that as long as the felon has no access or control then there isnt an issue. Same as a felon in your car and you have a pistol on your hip.
