Really? Is this even newsworthy?

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Gillibrand removes guns from under bedBY TOM BRUNE | tom.brune@newsday.com
5:26 PM EST, February 16, 2009

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) has moved the two rifles that she kept under the bed to protect her upstate New York home, her spokesman Matt Canter said Monday.

"Given that the location of the guns has been disclosed, they have been moved for security reasons," Canter said.

Gillibrand found a new place to store her guns over the weekend while she was upstate to endorse Democrat Scott Murphy in the March 31 special election being held to choose her successor to represent the 20th District in Congress.

Gillibrand disclosed she had two guns under her bed in an interview with Newsday last week. An aide later said the guns were rifles -- she won one in a county fair raffle while campaigning -- and that she kept them for home security.

Canter also said that the safety measure that the mother of two young children followed to ensure her family would be unharmed was keeping the bullets separate from the two rifles.

This Friday, Gillibrand will make her first visit as U.S. senator to Long Island, home of Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), a gun-control activist who has threatened a primary challenge to the new senator in 2010 over the gun issue.
I really question why this even made it to print other than an attempt to make her out to be some kind of "gun toting nut" by the liberal media. The only slightly poetic justice about the article is the fact that she is a democrat from NY, and her spokesperson stated that they were "moved" (not removed) because their location had been discloded and that they were kept for "home security". What would be even better would be if they turned out to be those "evil black rifles".

Check out the link to the results of the lame poll! It certainly appears that the vast majority doesn't care in the least that she has the rifles!

Makes me wonder why she disclosed the location. She could have taken her political position during the interview without saying where or how many she had.

I guess though, if you're trying to make a political point, knowing that you are about to be attacked on the gun ownership issue, why not go on the offense and point out that you believe in doing what you can to keep your family safe?

You then get to keep the issue alive by saying you were conscientious enough to move them after the disclosure. It seems that politics is treated a lot like the entertainment business, any press coverage is good.

They are for home defense, but the rounds are kept separately? I hope intruders call ahead...

Do you really believe that? She's probably lying about keeping them separate. Remember, she is a politician. "rlol"

Probably a casual, offhand comment when she didn't have a prepared response to a particular question.

The rifle comment was probably intended to show normal people that she owns guns but not frighten the anti-gun-nuts by mentioning handguns or hunting or anything not approved by the thought police.
