I can't put a number on it because violent home invasion is not reported as a separate category of crime. It is classified as robbery, burglary, rape, or kidnapping, depending upon what the criminal did.

There are about 2 million residential burglaries a year in the U.S. There are about 100 million households. That means the average household has about a 2% per year risk of burglary.

However, burglaries are concentrated on two types of targets:
  • residences in poor neighborhoods, which are easier to break into because of flimsy doors and the like, and closer to where criminals live
  • residences that obviously contain a lot of valuable stuff
It is also clear that wealthy residents are more likely to have alarm and surveillance systems, and it's only a matter of time until an incident like this occurs to a victim who is completely innocent of wrongdoing.

I've said it before, but I don't seem to be getting the message out: Do not blame the victim until there is credible evidence that the victim somehow "asked for it."

You could be on the receiving end some day.

Any bets on their immigration status? Ya know it's illegal for illegals to possess firearms. Don't they read the law? Oh, that's right, if they're here illegally they've already shown consideration of our laws.
