State requesting addition information (juvenile)

Post by nickymickyd »

I have taken and passed my class for a Texas CHL, however I am having a bit of trouble with the state. I disclosed certain juvenile offenses which would not have interfered with my obtaining a CHL. I recieved a letter from the state saying that they need a copy of my juvenile records before the licence could be issued, after a period of 2 months of trying to get my courts here in Amarillo to release the records I found that i had could not obtain the records personally, they had to be released by a Judge. Well needless to say, the deadline for the state to recieve the paperwork passed. Does anyone know if i have to go retake the CHL class or how to go about getting the juvenile records to the state?

I would suggest notifying DPS that you are in the process of getting the records and see what they say. They may be able to extend your deadline.

It's somewhat sad seeing so many people trying to overcome the clouds of their youth. Did they not listen back then or were there no parents in their homes prior to their misdeeeds or what?

I am not being judgmental, y'all done seen the Judge! Are there no lessons to be learned, no lessons to be taught?

Stuff happens Old Gringo. Teens screw up sometimes. I got into my share of problems with the law too. Never stealing but mostly drugs and fighting. My Grand pappy was a good old fashioned Church of god preacher and my mom was and still is a devout christian woman that was always there for me. My dad was killed in Nam, but I don't know that anything would have been different with me. Both my kids never did anything wrong. My mom makes comments about how unfair it is and laughs. I now own a business that provides a nice living for 14 families and pumps a couple hundred grand a year into the local tax base...I dunno...I turned out alright. I don't think it is anything new....maybe we just hear about it more these days. I was a teen outlaw in 1976-1979...drugs were pretty common then...probably as common as alcohol in the 50's and 60's. Most anybody can straighten up their life if they decide to do it. i would be willing to bet that the big difference is in who get's caught. I kid you not, at least 75% of the kids I went to high school with smoked pot or drank at the least...many did harder drugs. That was in 1978...I bet it is more now. Some get busted...and many get away looking clean....but allot are up to no good at some level.
