Mildly annoying

Post by mr.72 »

So I have been combing the Wal Marts and Academy stores looking for 9mm ammo for the past several weeks and finally last night one Wal Mart had a ton of WWB 9mm 100rd boxes in stock. So I tried to buy three boxes. No dice. They would only sell me two, they said that it was their manager's directive to make sure that other people would be able to get it (you price gouging people please chime in now. They are rationing it, without raising the price, even though they could raise the price and still sell it all).

So today I went to another Wal Mart (grocery shopping) and they also had a few boxes in stock. I happened to be in line behind two other people who were getting ammo. The first guy bought two boxes. There were five left. The next guy bought all of the 9mm, .357SIG and .45 ammo they had, and requested that they head into overstock and get everything they had there. I bet he spent way over $1000. Needless to say those of us who were in line left.

So, you see... if Wal Mart had done some price-gouging, I would have probably been able to buy some ammo. If it was $30/box instead of $20/box, I doubt the dude would have bought 52 boxes. Alternately, if Wal Mart had universally limited each customer to 2 boxes (not just one location), then I would have bought the three boxes that I wanted to begin with, since I was willing to go to two different stores. But as it is, I only got two and some enterprising jerk got the rest.

It's mildly annoying that this guy was so inconsiderate to clean out Wal Mart even though people were actually in line behind him, and annoying that Wal mart would let him do so. But it's his right to do so and Wal Mart's right to sell ammo under whatever terms they see fit so the libertarian capitalist in me has to hold his temper.

I hear you. but still. somewhere, deep inside, I'd still be miffed that I couldn't get the ammo I wanted

sure makes going to the range an event. can't hardly take my friends, anymore. unless they provide their own! :grumble
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Be honest. The annoying part is you weren't in front of the big spender in line.

I ran into the same thing in the Jacksonville store yesterday. I questioned the little old gnome behind the counter why
Wal-Mart didn't set a limit on individual purchases inasmuch as they couldn't keep the ammo in stock. His reply was a blank stare complete with a shoulder shrug.

I bet they would have sold you an entire shelf of tires...

Price gouging issue aside...

To which on my way out (minus ammo), I would have told the management that very fact...

Funny thing...They still would have made money if you had bought all the boxes you wanted to buy...2, 3, 4 whatever...

So that store basically shot themselves in the foot, pardon the pun...

I went to three different wally worlds this afternoon and tonight. All 45 was gone...as well as 9mm, 40, 380... I too was on the hunt for the elusive WWB 100 count. Great deal if you can find it. Some lady bought 25 boxes of 45 a few minutes before I hit the store...wiped them out. I got mad for a second and then got un-mad as I admitted to myself that I would have wiped them out too, if I had gotten there before her.... :biggrinjester:

For now...all the cupboards are bare.

I used to be annoyed there were so many WW wiping out the smaller businesses. :cryin
Now I'm annoyed there are too few WW for me to try and buy ammo at. :eek6

I've been told that if you want to find ammo at Wally World, you need to go in the morning. If you wait until after work, it'll be too late.

We stopped at the Academy in Webster last night, on the way to church, and picked up about $150 worth of ammo. Four 50-round boxes of WWB .45, a couple of 50-round boxes of (one MagTech and one of some other brand) 9mm, a 20-round box of 9mm hollow-points.

Wife wants us to keep at least 1000 rounds of each pistol caliber in reserve and only shoot the overage until further notice. We have more than that amount 9mm and .380, almost that much .45 and easily that much .22 at this time.

We're going to start hitting the three Wally Worlds in the area early payday morning to restock.
