Good Gunsmith in San Antonio

Post by Originalist »

I have a friend who has a semi auto 22 rifle (circa 1960's/70's - Gift from Grandfather) and the safety spring is broke so it is stuck in safe and he is looking for a decent/reasonably priced Gunsmith to fix it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Alex Hamilton of Ten Ring Precision is in San Antonio, up on the north side. His website is here: http://www.tenring.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He had been in business a long time, probably not the cheapest gunsmith in town, but you get what you pay for and all that. He has particular expertise in Hi Powers and 1911s (including flintlock versions :mrgreen: ), but also a lot of other firearms. I was happy with his work on my Hi Power.

I believe the Bullethole Range on Grosenbacher (far west side, off of Potranco outside of 1604) also advertises a gunsmith services, or they used to. Dury's gun store on I-37 and Southcross (I think) in the southeast corner of San Antonio has a gunsmith onsite. Both of those have websites, but I don't have them at my fingertips.

Oh, and Nagel's on San Pedro, about the 6600 block IIRC.

There's a couple more, but can't think of the names right off. You can google all of these. Good luck

Some other good ones are Larry Wengler at Nagel's and Johnny Dury at Dury's gun shop. These two are cousins. I have known both for over 35 years. Excellent work.

I agree with Dury's Gun Shop. They do excellent custom work and their service is top notch. BTW, they are at I-37 and Hotwells exit.

I also agree with Dury's. I have been using them since 1987 and always gotten good service. As an aside, they are THE police gun store in San Antonio, and have been at least as long as I have been in that area (1987). They have done quite a bit of work on duty and off duty type pistols for me.

I have been really impressed with the work done at the Gun Counter at Bass Pro Shop out on I-10. Fixed up my wife's .38 Chief's Special without charge (missing retaining clip on ejector rod). Also had them do official "estimates of value" for my insurance on the rest of the collection. Very helpful and nice folks.
