Anyone have experience with the Sig P556?

Post by dukesean »

Just browsing through the Sig website and I came across this bad boy:

Anyone with experience shooting or handling it? How's the weight distribution? From what I can tell it's a 556 with shortened barrel and stock removed. Looks like fun

Yep...I have one. I have shot about 500 rounds out of it and it is a blast to shoot. As far as weight and balance goes...there is none...LOL. Did I mention it is fun to shoot? Believe it or not it is fairly accurate out to 50 yards. I haven't shot it any further than that yet. It feels and looks cool with a beta c 100 round mag on it. The sight it comes with isn't the greatest, but it works alright. I noticed alot of folks are selling the sight off it and going after market. It is illegal to do but the 556 rifle reciever is interchangeable, giving you a cool looking short barreled rifle if you own the rifle version of it as well. At one time I was told that Sig was suppose to be making a stock for it in case a person wanted to do the short barrel rifle paperwork and convert it.

Mine has the tri rail instead of the picinniny(sp?) rail like the one in your pic. kind of wish I had the rail in the pic but I can always buy it and put it on.

Real fun pistol...but not much real use for it other than having some fun. Can you imagine carrying that bad boy as a concealed weapon???. :biggrinjester:

LOL...I just got home from shooting at Garland Public Shooting range. I usually hit the place about once a week during the day. Next week when I go you can meet me there and shoot it till your hearts content...just bring ammo for it. It will eat anything...I usually shoot the wolf soft point or hollow point through it. Garland doesn't allow FMJ rounds in rifle calibers. If you don't have the ammo, i can come up with a couple three or four boxes for you to shoot...just pay me what i spent for the ammo. The darned thing is fun to shoot.
