After reading the laws for myself in the past I am with TxInvestigator on this one. I am within my legal right as a Tx CHL to carry into the Post Office and I have and will continue to do so. Though I rarely go to the Post Office anyway.

My CHL instructor said that all federal grounds were off limits, even to CHL holders.

It's a common misunderstanding, but it is incorrect.

The post office in Lake Worth has a conspicuous sign with a picture of a snubbie and big letters saying that carrying a weapon in there is worth a year in the Federal slammer. It makes me paranoid about my pocket knife.

Somebody let me know when they become the "Test Case" on carrying in a Post Office. I spent many years as a Federal LEO and I would highly not recommend carrying in a Post Office Building.

With all due respect to your Federal Service (and I am sincere about that) as I already wrote; I believe I am legal carrying there. If I am involved in a deadly force encounter at a Post Office and I happen to SURVIVE, I will gladly let you know how this "test case" ends up.

Title 18, United States Code, Sec. 930. - Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

A. Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

Subsection (a) shall not apply to -

d. lawful carrying of firearms other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

oh yea I'm sorry to :deadhorse:

most of us know its perfectly legal to carry in the post office but i just wanted to point that out again to the rest of the board.

If I read that correctly the only "Federal" place we cannot carry is the Federal Court Facility?
