Concealment under scrubs

I did a search and found some good information, but I wanted some additional information, if anyone could give me some input or suggestions.

I'm in scrubs around 80% of the time at work, seeing people as I go from home to home. My job takes me to some seedy areas of town, so having my concealed handgun with me is indispensable. Until now, I've been carrying my gun and a spare mag in one of the pouches of my backpack, which is always with me. However, I've been testing a quick draw with my pack and I can't seem to be satisfied. I see that jbirds has a lot of experience with concealment under scrubs. I carry a Sig P229, so I'm positive that wearing scrubs cannot support that weight. Plus, I tuck my scrubs in.

I don't think I can do a smartcarry or thunderwear. I just can't be comfortable having my gun near my valuables. I wasn't too keen on the belly band, but after reading some threads, I'm beginning to come around. I wear an undershirt under my scrubs, so excessive sweating won't be as much of an issue. Any experience with belly bands, or with my sort of situation? Thanks in advance.

The 229 might be a bit of a challenge outside of a fanny pack or belly band. Fanny packs do not look strange at all while wearing scrubs (especially if you are a RT) There is no reason in the world you could not make a Sig P239 work for ankle carry or make your life easier and get a light revolver for work carry.

I was thinking of an ankle holster but as you observed, the 229 is a bit unwieldy for that. I just love having the 12+1 capacity with an extra magazine at the ready, so that sorta precludes the 239 or a light revolver. I've always considered the Galco ankle glove for a BUG, so I may indeed take your offer of meeting up for a coffee. I think I'll give the belly band a go. I know two other people who have 229's so if it doesn't work out for me, I can always sell it to them. Besides, 50 bucks for a belly band won't break the bank (whoa, alliteration). I suppose one can chalk this up to the age-old debate about choosing the gun based on attire or choosing attire based on the gun.

Well, a belly band will have it much closer to pointed at them. The only place I could see a bullet hitting me if it somehow fired from my Smartcarry is maybe lower leg if I happen to be sitting right. The denim is thick enough that I'd expect it to contain most of the gap and muzzle flash.

I thought one of the concepts of the belly band was that it can be rotated to put the gun at a spot that you'd be comfortable with, thus moving it away from said "sensitive areas." I didn't know about their trial offer. I have one friend who swears by smartcarry, so I may give it a shot. Thanks!

You also might try the Kangaroo Holster. I have one and it works well. I am pretty sensitive to things wrapped around me, but it is very comfortable for me with a t-shirt under it. With loose fitting scrubs, it might be just the ticket.

It should fit fine. I have a G22 that fits in it. For my Kahr PM9 I actually bought a second one and cut down the holster portion to contour it to the smaller gun. Don't wear them often, but they are good under a loose or button-down shirt.

a quick search located this post from a millinium ago. with the right holster, you can conceal anything, my opnion.

if you didn't already know, that little fold in mah scrubs would not be telltale of my 9mm Heater. when I bend over, to get them Funyons off the bottom rack, I just hold the side of my tunic (shirt) and no one knows the difference. if they see the bottom of the mag pooching through the top, they prolly just figger it's mah phone/beeper/PDA....

Scar, I'm 6'2", 230, so you should have no problem concealing ANY gun, IMO.

They don't make a black one. All are the natural color (kinda off-white). I would think you could dye it, but not sure how well the elastic would take the dye.

One note, when you wash them, they DO shrink some, so if you are right on the top edge of a size, I would recommend going one size larger.

Just bought one from "Deep Conceal" 877-443 3486.

I really appreciate your guidance, as I am on the border with size, so I went up one size.

The folks at this place are enormously helpful and patient with all my questions.

I got the Air Marshal model as it fits the G19 - this model is a bit costlier than the small gun model, with free freight, no tax, it came to $29.95. Of course, that's probably not a much different total than buying from a Texas source, but they will also take it back no excuses and pay return shipping for any reason I don't want it. Pretty good deal...

Also, they don't debit your credit card until the holster is on it's way to you, UNLESS you buy it directly off their internet site...so if you buy from them, do it by phone, unless you don't mind being charged for an item you've yet to receive...

There is a plus three week back order. They informed me since Obama went into office, ALL gun supply house inventories are flying off the shelves and most are back ordered on a wide variety of gun related items.

I look forward to this new way to carry and if it doesn't work as I hope, oh well, it ain't that costly and someone else may find it useful. As one who owns other holsters that didn't quite work out as planned, I now buy holsters with an attitude of "we'll see..."

What about some of the Maxpedition packs that have a quick-access concealment pocket? They're not cheap, but from what I've heard, the quality is commensurate with the price, and they're designed for quick access to the main compartment and the concealment pocket. Something like the Last Resort Tactical in black would probably look fine for somebody who obviously has a lot of paperwork and other supplies to haul.
