Saw gang graffiti in Katy

Post by ml1209 »

Katy was a pretty nice family-oriented area. We went to eat lunch today at a local restaurant when I saw "SUR 13" scrawled on the back wall of a CVS pharmacy.

Great.

I've lived in Katy since 1989 and the graffiti seems to come and go. Lately there has been a lot around my area, mostly "MAD" and "SEP" whatever those are to mean. Also lately I've seen the "MAD" crossed out and "NUKE" beside it.

I'd like to talk to an officer in the area and find out if this is a fairly organized gang, or just a few taggers spraying their initials everywhere.

I'm amazed that both of you could read ANYTHING that is spray painted. It's a shame that some of the graffiti is so well designed you have to wonder if that person could be a graphic artist instead of 'bangin'.

All I get from attempting to read most of that junk is "the person who wrote this is a loser". Yep. That's all.

Do not assume it's a "punk loser". Time to get educated.

You owe it to yourself and your family to have a real understanding of gangs.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Agreed...there's idiotic tagging by kids with too much time on their hands, "artistic" grafitti done by people who just want their stuff to be seen and then there's gangs marking territory and passing messages. People need to be aware of the differences. Unfortunately, the photos suggest the latter of the three. Was this the CVS just off 99, south of I-10 or the one at 99 and Fry Rd? I ask because my wife and I moved to the area a week before Ike made landfall.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

This was actually at the Walgreens on Morton and Fry.

So we are talking north of I-10 and an area serviced by METRO. FWIW; one of my CHL student indicated to me that gang activity was rising along N. Fry Rd before my wife and I moved to Katy last year. In the six months since we moved I have noticed many tatoos (mostly on young, Latino males) that indicated possible gang affiliation in that area. I don't see as much of it south of Highand Knolls and into Ft. Bend County...More aggressive patrols may be?

That description fits a lot of gang members from what I've read. They seem to get into gangs for one of two reasons--they have nothing better to do and they see the gang lifestyle being glamorized by rap music, or they want to "belong" to something and the male role models appeal to them (absent fathers is the rule amoung gang members).

I was dating a girl whose family lives in the neighborhood behind that Walgreens off of Morton St and Fry Rd. This was last year, but there were several areas close by that were on a fast decline from a few years prior. Chalk it up to more and more apartments and lower cost or HUD type housing going in around the area. A friends Mom lives in Rain Tree Village off of Fry and Salms and her street is very nice but the surrounding streets a beginning to take a rapid decline. It is a sign of the times I guess...

One of the most commonly displayed is the "devil's head" (formed by extending the index and little fingers of the hand while tucking in the middle and ring fingers with the thumb), which forms an M when displayed upside down. This hand sign is similar to the same symbol commonly seen displayed by heavy metal musicians and their fans. Founders of Mara Salvatrucha borrowed the hand sign after attending concerts of heavy metal bands they liked.[26]
:rock"
that's hilarious.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Maybe we should make dunce caps popular so the punks would think those were cool like the headbangers hand sign.

That way you'll know whether to shoot then with a rifle or a camera.
