Front Sight Firearms Training Institute

Post by GaryAdrian »

I have a friend who wants to attend this course in Nevada for 4 days and I went looking for information on them. Some good, some not so good.
Does anyone have any experience with Front Sight Firearms Training Institute or know anyone who has?
What is your views and does it have any certs that is recognized by anyone else (i.e. NRA)?
Bottom line: Is the course worth the price?

ONLY go if you have one of those "free" certs. Sometimes you pay a few hundred dollars for one of these certs.

DO NOT pay full price to go to their training, and DO NOT buy their membership. They will give you the hard sell for the membership.

Having said that, the training was pretty good. I went a few years ago and enjoyed it.

That is just about identical to my experience. I had a good time and learned some great stuff. Just eat outside of the class area on their "sales pitch" day.

Some of their lectures are second to none. I especially enjoyed their lecture on awareness. They teach you to shoot without the boot camp atmosphere.

In addition to some really good training with the handguns (I took the 4 day handgun course) we were allowed to stay late on two occasions for additional defensive shotgun mini courses.

Kinny and I drove to the facility from Clear Lake so we got to see some beautiful parts of the country.

I attended in May 2008 with certificates from Ebay along with a friend. I had heard about the 'hard sale' for the membership program before I attended... watching a video (OPTIONAL) for 45 minutes during lunch didn't and still does not constitute a hard sale to me. (I watched the video because it was the ONLY cool place ;-) )

If you're traveling with someone else, look at doing a vacation rental in Pahrump. We took our spouses and had a 4 BR house for less than a hotel.. and coming in to a home cooked meal, BBQ pit, hot tub made the trip that much more enjoyable.

I'm not a handgun expert.. but I learned a bucketfull while there. The classes were well paced, and those who were 'slow' were able to get some 1 on 1 with a range master to bring them up to speed without slowing the pace of the class. It's not a boot camp, and you'll get the chance to go through a shoot house, do a night shoot, and go through about 800 rounds while you're there.

I didn't become a member, but I'd cerrtainly go again!
