I will be moving to TX in a few months, live in Missouri at present. I have a MO CCW permit now, and am a CCW instructor (NRA certified).
Will any of these facts benefit me or fulfill any requirements for the CHL, be accepted as covering some part of the process?
Thanks,:tiphat:

Re: Questions on CHL
Welcome to the forum and to the still-great State of Texas.
First off, Texas grants reciprocity to Missouri CCW holders, so you are covered from day 1 (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... m#Missouri" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
The only exemptions from instruction or the shooting proficiency test are for people who have qualified during military service, and certain state officers who are allowed by statute to carry a handgun (Government Code §411.1881-2). That won't help you, so you get to warm a seat cushion in the waiting room like everyone else.
The bright side is that you can get a recommendation for a good CHL instructor here, and most people say they enjoy the course.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.

Thanks for the reply Jim.
Then I will be needing a recommendation for the Lubbock area. Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks,

Re: Questions on CHL
You might want to post a message in the Instructors forum, because most of the instructors who participate here do not read every message.
Something else just occurred to me: When you move to Texas as a resident, you are supposed to get a Texas driver license within 30 days. You have to surrender your out-of-state license when you get a Texas license. Your Missouri CCW license is an endorsement on your driver license.
Is there another form of license that you can get from Missouri?
If not, you might want to look into getting a Pennsylvania or Florida license to cover the gap.

Re: Questions on CHL
Thanks Jim, I'll post it in the instructors area.
I've thought of getting a Florida non-resident license for a while. Theirs seem to be accepted in the most states. Just never seemed to have the extra cash on hand to do so, ya know how that goes.
