Why would an amendment be needed? If schools are removed from the forbidden list, then private schools (K-12, universities, beauty schools, etc.) would be able to adopt their own policies, the same as private offices, private farms, and private movie theaters. No new laws or amendments are needed.Greybeard wrote:Mark Davis had Weatherford Rep. King on for a few minutes just after 9:30. On this issue I believe if private schools want to prohibit carrying in buildings by posting 30.06 then fine, but I think a provision should be added to the bill that would block punishment for students/professors/staff chl'ers storing a handgun in their cars, much like the parking lot bill. We should at least be able to bring our guns and leave them in our cars without fear of repercussion from the university.
p.s.- I would like to see ALL schools adopt some form of concealed carry, public or private, k-12 and universities.

The parking lot bills (HB 1301 and SB 730) as currently written would apply to employees of universities (faculty and staff). I don't think it would keep schools from prohibiting students from having firearms in their car.Aggie_engr wrote:On this issue I believe if private schools want to prohibit carrying in buildings by posting 30.06 then fine, but I think a provision should be added to the bill that would block punishment for students/professors/staff chl'ers storing a handgun in their cars, much like the parking lot bill. The House Committe on Public Safety had a hearing on these issues exactly one week ago today. It lasted for over 8 hours. From the sound of things, they are considering amending the "as written" House on bill Campus Carry. Unless actually on site or watching the hearings live on the internet, it is quite difficult at this point to know exactly how it might be "tweaked' to have the best chance of getting the votes when (or if) it hits the full House and Senate. One good place to better keep up with such is the "Texas Legislative Session 2009" section of this forum.
