Can I carry at Tea Party on south steps of the capitol?

Post by Txroadcyclist »

Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since I've posted but I have a question on whether or not I can carry to a Tea Party that will be held on the south steps of the Capitol. Also, if I needed to use the facilities inside, can I go in with my CHL? Thanks in advance.

There is no prohibition on a CHL carrying on the steps of the Capitol, unless there was a meeting of a governmental entity/agency at that location and notice was given pursuant to TPC §30.06.

Keep in mind that Charles did not mention going inside to use the potty.

You can carry in the Capitol. I was there yesterday. You can't carry an a meeting if there is a 30.06 sign. The gallery of the House and Senate are posted, but that's a discussion for another day. :totap:

Thanks for the clarification. My son and I were up there for his spring break taking pics but I didn't go in as I thought the Government Meeting proviso would apply to the whole building.

I also visited the capital during spring break. Was not sure of the law, so I asked one of the MANY DPS Troopers. He was extremely nice and informed me that you can carry anywhere except the elevated seating in the house and senate. The entry for these areas when open are 30.06 marked, and metal detectors are used to permit entry. In fact, the Trooper and I discussed my weapon of choice (he surmised that I was not asking for general purpose) and holster. :clapping:
