Kahr CW series comfy enough for summer carry?

Post by kalipsocs »

Looking for something to fit in between my Ruger LCP and CZ P-01. The LCP gets carried everyday but like most I am worried about it actual effectiveness if it ever needed to be called upon. The P-01 is fantastic, but even in the MTAC (which conceals well and is super comfy) it is simply too big for the Texas summer. So slimness and 6 or 7 round mag (no double stacks and a long handle is hard to conceal in warm weather clothes) seems to be the qualifications for the middle child pistol. Kahr seems to stick out to me and being a broke college kid the CW series might fit the bill. It would be riding IWB and in the MTAC (just order another half shell....love that holster!). Oh, and don't even mention wearing over sized Hawaiian shirts...I would rather spend the serious money on a PM series than be seen in that (no offense guys, just not my style  ) Opinions?

If the CW series is the same size as the PM series then it should work nicely. I can carry a PM9 in the front pocket of cargo shorts and it conceals as well as the LCP. It really is not much bigger than the LCP in any direction.

The CW9 is .6 inches longer and .5 inches taller than the PM9. (CW 5.9 length, 4.5 height, PM 5.3 length, 4.0 height)

Click on this link and then click on the specifications to see a side-by-side comparison of their polymer models.

Hey, if those shirts are good enough for Tom Sellek.....:
I had a CW9 and it does indeed hide well. Only wish it shot as well as it hid. Decided to stick with a Rock Island compact .45
and a good Hawiian shirt "rlol"

I own two KAHR pistols. One of the older complete metal frame ones that has been largely trouble free from the outset.
And one of the newer polymer frame 9mm that has been a troublesome thing. It has been back to the factory twice, ended up being replaced both times. Once because it was blowing out the small right side panel just above the grip and this last time because part of the polymer frame where the slide rides broke off. KAHR has been very nice about the whole thing, but since they send me a NEW frame/serial number each time, I have to pay someone to do the ATF transfer. ($40.00 the last time). What I have learned about KAHR is in two parts. First, it is particular about ammunition, it does not like reloads. Not even really good commercial reloads. Really prefers WWB, but tolerates Blazer OK. Second, the polymer frame weapons do not stand up to a bunch of shooting. My wife was putting about 50rds every other week through hers. I really think that the polymer frame just wore out. She has been shooting my steel frame one for practice and training since, and using the polymer frame for carry with only limited shooting. Just my observations.

My CW9 works well in a Comp-Tac Paddle holster (OWB), and a High Noon Holster (IWB) just fine in summer attire.

Here is my OWB setup:

Hawaiian shirts work well too. :coolgleamA:

First let me say I love my PM9. It's thin, light, accurate and so far problem free. It has eaten everything I've fed it and been through about 1000 rnds. If you can wait save the money for the PM series.

Second to "rgoldy" when Springfield had to replace my XD9 they just sent the new one to the house. I never thought anything about it untill I read your response. Now I feel like Springer & I have done something wrong. I did record both the old # and the new #.
These Pretzels are making me thirsty!
