Cheap 9mm ammo in Houston?

Post by ClarkLZeuss »

I am having no luck finding cheap 9mm ammo in Houston, as in less than $15/box. Every Academy and Walmart store I've visited in the last week has been completely out. Anyone in Houston know something I don't know?

I was killing time in the Academy near Rayford Rd./I-45(Woodlands area) and picked up a couple of boxes of the cheap stuff they sell(can't think of the name, i'm sure somebody will help) steel cased version ($8.99 box 50). But I can tell you the shelves were pretty bare.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, and I should have mentioned this, I need brass casings, as all the ranges I go to won't allow steel.

Monarch is available in both steel and brass casings, as is Blazer. I still prefer WWB or Remington, but that's coming from an ammo snob. :skep:

The Wal-Mart I go to got a big bunch in Monday, Blazer Brass 9mm $8.97. WWB 100 round value packs, BB 40S&W, BB 45acp.
But even with the "4 box per customer" limit I bet it didn't last till Tuesday. I'm goning back by tomorrow, I'll check.

The Monarch brass 9mm goes bang every time for me. However the empty cases come back and hit me. Something that WWB and Blazer Brass don't do in the same guns.

Monarch shoots ok for me, I'm no marksman, runs fine in my Bersa UC and my wifey's Taurus PT111.

No problemo...I have some of the brass stuff too, but that wasn't available when I was doing my time killing, as I mentioned the shelves were pretty bare.

Good luck in your hunt.

Monarch exposed my wifes limp wristing in my Berretta 92, She had no problem with WWB nor with Monarch in my Ruger. Monarch shoots fine for me in both guns.

Monarch made my wife a better shooter and cured her of limp wristing.

It's too late now. At 8:30am this morning (Wed.) the shelves were bare again.

You just have to go in Wal-Marts often and continuously and be lucky.

I was in an Ace Hardware lumber yard out in the country last week. They had a couple of shelves on the wall behind the counter that were almost bare except for 2 lonely dust covered boxes of WWB 357sig. I couldn't read the price from where I was standing so I asked the woman behind the counter. $15.99 per box(50 rd)!!!!! Yes, I bought them! Yes, I have guns chambered for 357sig. They had some 32acp(Federal Eagle) that was $22/50rds. I passed on that.

The Academy in Sugar Land has had it hit and miss. Usually hit though. The Monarch brass cased feels a little light loaded to me. I usually shoot the WWB or Remington sureshot or UMC. I have had NO luck at any Wal-Mart in months. I visited the Academy several days in a row and was able to buy 1000 rounds of Remington sureshot for 24.99 a 100rd/box.
