HK Armorer In Houston?

Post by Carrots »

I need to find a smith in the Houston area who will be able to carry out a trigger swap for me. I want an LEM trigger taken out of a HK45 and put into a HK45 compact. I then want the V1 da/sa config from the compact put into the full-size. Of course I would prefer a HK man, but any competent smith (or even private party) that is capable and willing would be A-OK. Does anyone know anyone, or can anyone reading this help out? I have a thread in the WTS section seeking a trade and I've now found something but the other guy wants to keep his LEM and I want to keep V1. Thank you!

There is a nice armorer at Fountain Firearms. He has repaired a problem with a 1911 I had. He will tell you straight up Yes I can or No I can't. I also had an issue with an AR barrel and he told me who to take it to b/c he did not have the proper tooling to fix my issue.

Thanks. Unfortunately my potential trade partner has insisted on an official HK man and so it looks like this isn't going to happen. Shipping to HK and waiting for them to take care of it is enough to put me off.

Ask him to find an "OFFICIAL" HK armorer in town? I was not aware there was a HK specific armorer qualification or certificate. News to me or bull?

Yeah I know that this is now going to be an impossible task. I only found out that this was part of the deal after I had started looking for a general smith who of course could probably do the swap just fine. The other guy is in Port Arthur and he has no-one there. By my understanding there is a HK course which folks can take but I am yet to find any that have in Tx at all. The annoying thing is that the other guy was a SIG armourer apparently and so chances are he could take care of this himself for both of us if he could just make a bit of an effort. Nevertheless I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, it's just a bit of a shame.

At least for law enforcement, almost every separate company has their own armorer's course. For example, we just sent several officer's to the Glock Armorer class. We had them trained for the M&P before. We did use a generic AR-15 armorer's class, but it was also not sponsored or recognized by a factory (we use several different makes).

It is bad enough that some departments will not recognize the Springfield 1911 course for S&W 1911's.

You might check with Pro Defense in Webster. I got the impression they do a fair amount of work for local police departments.

Well I am pleased to report that I've found another gun with the 'right' trigger and so my quest for the impossible can now come to an end. I have made a note of all the suggestions in this thread in case I need something else in the future. Thanks folks

Food for thought, but I was at Fountain Firearms this weekend and their armorer IS an HK armorer after I talked to him a little.

Thank you for reporting back. I did the deal on the other pistol, but as I now have three HK's this may come in handy for the future.
