Disclaimer:
Actually I'm being a little hypocritical, my ammo supply is down to nothing, and I just haven't had the time or money to chase more guns down. Its just that I believe its not such a bad idea to build a cache.
I have 2-3 hundred factory rounds of each caliber and that is my cache and that is my point. I don't have the money to have 1,000's of each caliber. At the risk of sounding like you know who and his followers, there are gun owners (new and old) who have none because there is none to be had. Now we're back to square one.
( Hmmm, this does sound a lot like redistribute the bullets, doesn't it?)
Nobody can blame me for buying up and hording factory ammo from Wally World or anywhere else any more.
I saw a poster at the Denton gun show Saturday that had me ROFL. It was a picture of Obama with a caption underneath it that read "Gun Salesman of the Year".
The current ammo shortage has actually resulted in a huge cost savings for me along with being able to actually go to the range MORE often.
I got fed up with not being able to find ammo so I bought a Dillon Square Deal B, 5,000 pieces of range brass, 5,000 primers, and several cans of powder. Then I started having a hard time finding cast bullets, so I bought a Lee production furnace and six-cavity mold. I have about 400 lbs of wheel weights stocked up and have been casting at a rate of between 500 and 600 per hour.
I'm saving tons of money, even with the $800 or so I've invested in equipment and supplies, and I'm going to the range EVERY Saturday unless it's raining. I used to spend over $200.00 per session at the range, now I spend about $20.00 to shoot a few hundred rounds, ammo and range fee combined. I go three or four times a month now, instead of once every couple of months.
The only things I'm buying now that you might consider 'hoarding' are primers and powder. I consider it my hedge fund, since the prices may stabilize, but they're never going to decrease.

I remember hearing that about housing prices a few years ago.
If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene.

Or even oil or gas several months ago. When gas was $4/gallon, I would have never though it would come back down to less than $2/gallon. One would have expected that if and when it did drop, it would only drop very slightly.

I actually had a pleasant experience yesterday at one of the local Wal-Mart stores. I dropped by to pick up the typical weekly necessities, and while I was there,I made my mandatory trip over to the ammo counter. There was a man there looking through a box with assorted ammo that had arrived earlier in the day. I asked the clerk if they had any 22LR ammo,to which he replied-"Nope been sold out for a few weeks now". I then asked if he had any 9mm HP ammo, and the man that was looking through the assorted box said that he'd split what they had with me if I wanted. They had two 100 round Remington value packs of 115gr JHP,and he had both boxes. I agreed, and we had a nice conversation about assorted old guns and the ammo insanity that's been going on,and I gave him a few leads on some 30 Carbine ammo that he was looking for before we parted to do the rest of our shopping. He was a really nice guy that saw the need for sharing what ammo was available to another gun enthusiast.

It is amazing how us right wing extremists get along without arguing, cussing, etc., is it not? We even share like our Mothers taught us too. I must be sick as I still wave when I drive by people in their yard or driving their cars through my neighborhood. Many don't wave back, usually it is the ones who drive a truck that do.

I just call it being raised right as a child.
