Target spotting scopes

Post by Zero_G »

What magnification scope would I need for range use to check hits on a target at 100 to 400 yards?

How about what magnification scopes are people using? Do you need 20x to see 200 yards? x enough or do you need 80 to see 400? Enquiring minds (and strained eyes) want to know!

I think most spotting scopes I have seen are in the 25x range. I also don't think they are much good beyond about 100 yards or so.

But, I am not a long distance rifle shooter, so I can't really say for sure. When i do shoot rifles, I use whatever the range has.

Sorry that no one else has posted to help. It could be you have found an area we really don't know enough about to want to comment on.

I have an inexpensive Simmons 15x, that I have used out to 200. But it would be a stretch for me to say how many flies are on a black target at that distance.
40x sticks in my head for 400+.
Might try this page for ideas. These guys could tell most everything. http://www.snipercentral.com/spotting.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.
